The Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A-001 is a steel automatic watch with a date display and a black composite strap. Buying one requires more than matching the reference: establish which version is offered, what comes with it and what the quoted price includes. This guide brings those checks together.
Aquanaut 5167A-001 specifications
Current manufacturer specifications describe the present catalogue model; check an older example against its own documentation. Patek's 5167A-001 model page, checked September 10, 2026, supplies the figures below.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Case | Steel; 40.8 mm measured from 10 to 4 o'clock; 8.1 mm thick |
| Movement | Self-winding caliber 26-330 S C; date and central seconds |
| Power reserve | 35–45 hours |
| Dial | Embossed charcoal-gray sunburst with a black-gradient rim |
| Strap and clasp | Black composite strap; steel folding clasp |
| Published water resistance | 30 meters |
A listing described simply as “black dial” may need closer examination. Compare clear photographs and the watch's records with the version you intend to buy. A reference number does not establish condition, included accessories or whether a particular seller has the watch available.
Which movement is inside the 5167A-001?
Patek's current listing specifies caliber 26-330 S C, while its May 2021 Aquanaut release describes the 5167 with caliber 324 S C. That historical release also places the redesigned 5167 in 2007, ten years after the Aquanaut family's launch.
Ask the seller to identify the movement in the actual watch and explain what evidence supports the answer. These two dated sources do not establish an exact production cutoff for every example. Avoid deciding the caliber solely from a listing's year field or assuming every watch carrying this reference has the current specification.
Why do Aquanaut water-resistance ratings differ?
Patek announced a unified 30-meter standard for its certified water-resistant watches in 2024. Its 2024 announcement, page 5 explains the testing and permitted activities; older Aquanaut literature can show 120 meters.
The publication date matters when comparing those figures. Neither an old catalogue nor this guide establishes the present sealing condition of a used watch. Follow the instructions applicable to your example and ask about current water-resistance testing before taking it into water. Resolve conflicting seller advice before purchase, especially if swimming is central to how you plan to use it.
What does “full set” actually include?
Ask for an itemized list of the documents and accessories included with the specific watch. Do not rely on “full set” as a substitute for photographs and written confirmation.
The original Certificate of Origin identifies the watch and serves as its warranty document. An Extract from the Archives is a transcript of historical records, a different document. Patek explains the distinction in its archive FAQ. Treat an extract, an original certificate and a service invoice as separate items in your comparison.
For identifying-number checks, Patek's authenticity FAQ says the case number is inside the caseback and directs caseback removal to an authorized retailer or service center. Arrange professional inspection rather than opening a watch yourself or expecting an exterior photograph to settle every question.
Will the 5167A fit my wrist?
Assess the fitted strap and clasp on your wrist; a universal minimum circumference cannot determine comfort. Ask how the offered strap has been sized, whether it fits you and what replacing it would cost if necessary.
Try the watch with the clasp closed. Check whether the case remains centered, whether the strap follows your wrist comfortably and whether the clasp presses into your skin when you bend your hand. For a remote purchase, clarify how a fit problem would be handled under the seller's terms before paying.
What is the 5167A-001 price?
Separate the manufacturer's retail indication from a dealer's asking price and a completed sale. Patek's purchasing FAQ explains that online retail indications can change and are not offers; availability and the applicable price require confirmation.
For a sourced watch, request a dated quote for the specific example. Comparing two headline prices is useful only when the watches and terms are sufficiently alike. Use this worksheet to identify differences before deciding that one quote is better.
| Record for each quote | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Version and condition | Which movement and dial, what wear, and what service information? |
| Documents and accessories | Which original papers, service records, box and straps are included? |
| Total and timing | What currency, quote date, charges and expected dispatch apply? |
| Seller commitments | Is availability confirmed, and what inspection, warranty and return terms apply? |
What did eight Aquanaut listing checks reveal?
Listings carrying the 5167A reference differ in documents, condition and payment terms; their headline prices are not automatically comparable. On September 10, 2026, we checked eight previously selected dealer URLs. Seven opened product pages. The observations below describe what those pages displayed, without verifying possession or a completed sale.
| Dealer page | Details described by the dealer | Displayed price and payment basis |
|---|---|---|
| Authentick | Unworn; box and papers; year not established in our check | $70,000; payment basis unresolved |
| Burdeen's | Preowned; full set; year not established in our check | $95,000; payment basis unresolved |
| CollectorsWatches | Preowned; August 2009 papers; box | $72,993.27 wire; $75,913 card |
| Mavani & Co. | 2009; excellent condition; box and papers | 71,995 in a field labeled retail price; page asks visitors to inquire for price |
| MyWatch | 2022 papers; box; excellent overall condition | $88,500 wire; page lists additional card charges |
| Phigora | Preowned category; excellent condition; no box or papers | $69,850 wire; $71,999 card |
| Watches Off 5th | 2021; preowned; original box and papers | $85,000 displayed; contact required for wire pricing |
The eighth saved URL, an ECI Jewelers product link, opened the dealer's homepage during our check. It provided no usable item quote at that destination; this does not establish whether the watch sold.
Payment alone changed the displayed amount by $2,919.73 on the CollectorsWatches page and $2,149 on Phigora's page. Those differences concern each individual listing. They do not measure a market discount, the value of papers or a reason to prefer one payment method.
Before comparing your offers, confirm the actual movement, ownership and wear, original documents, fitted strap, payment method and total delivered cost. “Unworn” alone does not settle prior ownership. A page's date or cart button does not confirm a watch is still held. Ask for current item photographs and a dated written offer.
Method: a convenience sample of eight existing discovery links, not a random or complete market survey. We read public pages, did not contact sellers or inspect the watches, and did not establish a matched group of offers. Prices and availability may change. We therefore do not calculate a market average from these observations.
Does the Aquanaut 5167A hold its value?
Future resale value is uncertain, and a retail asking price does not establish what a dealer would pay you. If the ability to sell matters, request a current cash-buy or trade assessment for the same watch and condition.
Keep cash offers separate from trade allowances and store credit. Allow for ownership costs and the difference between buying and selling terms. This guide does not establish a fixed retention rate, a universal premium for papers or a guaranteed time to sell.
What should I check before paying?
Confirm the watch's identity, condition, documents and purchase terms before making payment. Item-specific photographs should show the dial, case, strap and clasp clearly; ask the seller to explain any inconsistency or undisclosed replacement.
A crisp engraving or a smoothly moving seconds hand is not conclusive authentication. Agree on an appropriate inspection route, and get promised items and remedies in writing. When the watch is being sourced, confirm when the final example and price will be approved and how any deposit applies.
Have a specific 5167A offer to assess? Use the watch quote review tool to organize the reference, movement version, condition, documents and payment terms into seller questions. Its optional comparison uses offers you supply and confirm; the public listings above are not automatically qualified comparables.
