The Audemars Piguet 26300ST is the steel Royal Oak Chronograph in the model's original 39 mm size, powered by the self-winding calibre 2385 and worn on the integrated steel bracelet. 26300ST.OO.1110ST.08 is its brown-dial version: a brown tapisserie dial with silver-toned counters, orange chronograph hands and orange minute-track numerals. It is listed from $27,899.

What sets the 26300ST apart

  • The original 39 mm size. Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak Chronograph in 1997 in a 39 mm case. In 2012 the 41 mm 26320 replaced the 39 mm models, keeping the same calibre.
  • Calibre 2385. Audemars Piguet's version of the Frédéric Piguet 1185, a compact integrated chronograph first made in 1988, with a column wheel and a vertical clutch. Audemars Piguet specifies it at 26.2 mm across and 5.5 mm thick, with 37 jewels, 304 parts, a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vph) and a 40-hour power reserve; it shows hours, minutes, small seconds, the chronograph and the date.
  • The brown dial. It has a tapisserie pattern and applied baton hour markers. Its three silver-toned counters with brown centres are a 12-hour totaliser at 9 o'clock, a 30-minute totaliser at 3 and the small seconds at 6, with the date between 4 and 5 o'clock; the chronograph hands and the minute-track numerals are orange.
  • Three dial versions, one case. The dial code is the last two digits: .08 is this brown dial, .07 a blue dial with silver-ringed counters and yellow chronograph hands, and .06 a silver-white dial with black counters and a red chronograph seconds hand. All three share the 39 mm steel case and the 1110ST bracelet.
  • Out of production. Audemars Piguet no longer lists the 26300ST on its website, so it is bought on the secondary market. In 2022 the 41 mm 26240ST became the first steel Royal Oak Chronograph with an in-house movement, the flyback calibre 4401.

Checks before you pay the balance

  • Reference and papers. The three 26300ST dials share one case and bracelet, so check that any papers read 26300ST.OO.1110ST.08 for the brown dial, and ask which box, papers and service records come with the watch offered.
  • Case and movement numbers. Ask for a photo of the case back. Audemars Piguet's archives record each watch's case and movement numbers, which is how the manufacture dates a watch and confirms its authenticity.
  • The chronograph. Ask when its calibre 2385 was last serviced, and whether the chronograph starts, stops and resets correctly.
  • Case edges. The Royal Oak case pairs brushed surfaces with polished bevels; ask for daylight photos of the bezel and case flanks to judge any polishing.
  • Bracelet length. Ask how many links come with the 1110ST bracelet, so it can be sized to your wrist.

The 26331 of 2017 brought two-tone dials with larger counters at 3 and 9 o'clock, a 38 mm Royal Oak Chronograph followed in 2019, and in 2022 the 41 mm 26240ST became the first steel Royal Oak Chronograph with an in-house movement, the flyback calibre 4401.

Audemars Piguet specifies it at 26.2 mm across and 5.5 mm thick, with 37 jewels, 304 parts, 3 Hz and a 40-hour power reserve. Audemars Piguet no longer lists the 26300ST, so it is bought on the secondary market.
