The Patek Philippe 5230P-001 is the platinum World Time: a 38.5 mm platinum case with a single diamond between the lugs at 6 o'clock, a blue dial with a circular hand-guilloched center, and the self-winding caliber 240 HU, which shows the time in all 24 time zones at once and changes zone with one pusher at 10 o'clock. Patek Philippe introduced it at Watches and Wonders Geneva in March 2022 on a matching navy blue calfskin strap, and no longer lists it. This Bizak & Co. listing is from $68,197.

What sets the 5230P-001 apart

  • The first platinum 5230. Patek Philippe launched the Ref. 5230 in 2016 in white gold (5230G-001) and rose gold (5230R-001), both with a hand-guilloched basket-weave center. In 2022 it combined a platinum case with a blue dial and a matching strap for the first time, on the 5230P-001, and set one diamond in the case between the lugs at 6 o'clock, as on its platinum 5930P-001 World Time chronograph.
  • A dial pattern from the first patented World Time. The circular hand-guilloched motif at the center was new in 2022; Patek Philippe says it was inspired by the Ref. 5110 of 2000, the first watch fitted with its patented World Time mechanism. Around it sit the city disk with 24 place names and the 24-hour ring, which turns counterclockwise and shows day and night in color, with sun and moon symbols.
  • Every time zone from one pusher. Press the pusher at 10 o'clock until the city of your local time sits under the red arrow at 12 o'clock: each press moves the hour hand forward one hour and turns the city disk and the 24-hour ring one step counterclockwise. Patek Philippe patented the mechanism in 1999. During each change the mechanism is uncoupled from the movement, so the minute hand keeps its accuracy and the balance its amplitude.
  • The 2016 World Time design. A narrow, polished bezel, winglet-style lugs, a pierced hour hand whose silhouette evokes the Southern Cross constellation, a lozenge-shaped minute hand and applied baton hour markers.
  • Caliber 240 HU. Patek Philippe's ultra-thin self-winding movement is 3.88 mm high despite the World Time mechanism, thanks to a 22K gold mini-rotor set into the level of the bridges, a design Patek Philippe patented in 1977. It has a Spiromax balance spring, at least 48 hours of power reserve and the Patek Philippe Seal, and Patek Philippe gives its rate tolerance as -3 to +2 seconds a day. It is visible through the sapphire caseback.

On October 24, 2026, Patek Philippe's website no longer listed the 5230P-001, nor the gold 5230G-001 and 5230R-001, and its Complications collection had no Ref. 5230 at all. Phillips and Christie's both describe the 5230P-001 as discontinued in 2024. Watches now come from dealers and the secondary market.

5230P-001 or another Patek Philippe World Time?

The 5230G-001 and 5230R-001 share the 5230P-001's 38.5 mm case design, caliber 240 HU and functions. They are gold rather than platinum, with the basket-weave guilloché center instead of the circular pattern, no diamond, and alligator straps: black on the white gold, chocolate brown on the rose gold. Among the World Time models Patek Philippe lists today, the 5231G-001 keeps the 38.5 mm size in white gold with a grand feu cloisonné enamel map of Oceania and Southeast Asia; the 40 mm 5330G-001 adds a date that follows local time (caliber 240 HU C); and the 39.5 mm platinum 5930P-001 adds a flyback chronograph, with a green hand-guilloched dial and a diamond at 6 o'clock.

Checks before you pay the balance

  • Reference and papers. Ask for photos of the Certificate of Origin and of the watch's case and movement numbers, and check that the certificate names Ref. 5230P-001 and the same numbers.
  • Platinum details. Ask for close-ups of the diamond between the lugs at 6 o'clock and of the dial's circular guilloché center.
  • The World Time. Ask for a short video of the pusher at 10 o'clock moving the hour hand, the city disk and the 24-hour ring together.
  • Strap and clasp. Have the quote say whether the navy blue calfskin strap and the platinum fold-over clasp are the originals, with photos of both.
  • Service. Ask when the watch was last serviced and for a recent timing reading, against Patek Philippe's -3 to +2 seconds a day for the 240 HU.
  • Box and papers. Have the quote name the Certificate of Origin, box and documents that come with the watch.

Patek Philippe's World Time goes back to the 1930s, when the Genevan watchmaker Louis Cottier invented a way to show the time in every time zone at once; Patek Philippe later refined and patented the mechanism. A 1999 patent let one pusher at 10 o'clock correct every display in one-hour steps, first on the Ref. 5110 of 2000. In 2016 the Ref. 5230 replaced all earlier World Time models, with updated city names, a reworked case with winglet-style lugs and a narrow polished bezel, a pierced hour hand evoking the Southern Cross constellation and a lozenge-shaped minute hand.

In March 2022 Patek Philippe gave the 5230 its first platinum case, with a blue dial and a matching navy blue calfskin strap. The dial's center carries a new circular hand-guilloched pattern inspired by the Ref. 5110, inside the city disk and the 24-hour ring with its day and night colors, and a single diamond is set in the case between the lugs at 6 o'clock.

Inside is caliber 240 HU, an ultra-thin self-winding movement only 3.88 mm high: its 22K gold mini-rotor sits in the level of the bridges, a design Patek Philippe patented in 1977. It runs at 3 Hz with a Spiromax balance spring and at least 48 hours of power reserve, and Patek Philippe gives its rate tolerance as -3 to +2 seconds a day. Its finishing meets the Patek Philippe Seal: Geneva striping on the chamfered bridges and on the gold mini-rotor, which is engraved with the Calatrava cross, all visible through the sapphire caseback. When the pusher changes the time zone, the World Time mechanism is uncoupled from the movement, so timekeeping is not disturbed.

Patek Philippe no longer lists the 5230P-001; Phillips and Christie's describe it as discontinued in 2024, after a short run. The World Time models Patek Philippe lists today include the 5231G-001 with a grand feu cloisonné enamel map, the 40 mm 5330G-001 with a date, and the platinum 5930P-001 flyback chronograph.

FAQ

1. What is the Patek Philippe 5230P-001?
The platinum version of Patek Philippe's World Time Ref. 5230: a 38.5 mm platinum case with a single diamond between the lugs at 6 o'clock, a blue dial with a circular hand-guilloched center, and the self-winding caliber 240 HU, which shows the time in all 24 time zones at once. Patek Philippe introduced it in 2022 on a navy blue calfskin strap with a platinum fold-over clasp. This Bizak & Co. listing is from $68,197 (October 24, 2026).

2. When did the 5230P-001 come out, and is it discontinued?
Patek Philippe presented it at Watches and Wonders Geneva in March 2022, as the first 5230 to combine a platinum case with a blue dial and a matching strap. On October 24, 2026, Patek Philippe's website no longer listed it, nor the white and rose gold 5230G-001 and 5230R-001, and Phillips and Christie's both describe the 5230P-001 as discontinued in 2024. A 5230P-001 now comes from dealers and the secondary market.

3. What is the difference between the 5230P-001 and the 5230G-001 or 5230R-001?
All three are the 38.5 mm Ref. 5230 World Time with caliber 240 HU, the pusher at 10 o'clock and water resistance to 30 m. The 5230G-001 (white gold) and 5230R-001 (rose gold) came in 2016 with a hand-guilloched basket-weave dial center and alligator straps, black on the white gold and chocolate brown on the rose gold. The 5230P-001 has a platinum case with a diamond between the lugs at 6 o'clock, a blue dial whose circular guilloché was inspired by the Ref. 5110 of 2000, and a matching navy blue calfskin strap. Bizak & Co. lists the 5230G-001 from $34,999 and the 5230R-001 from $43,772; this 5230P-001 listing is from $68,197 (October 24, 2026).

4. How do you read the World Time on the 5230P-001?
The hour and minute hands show the local time of the city under the small red arrow at 12 o'clock. For the other 23 time zones, read the hour on the 24-hour ring beside each city name on the city disk: the ring turns counterclockwise inside the city disk and shows day and night in color, with sun and moon symbols. The minute hand gives the minutes for every zone.

5. How do you change the time zone on the 5230P-001?
Press the pusher at 10 o'clock as often as needed to bring the city of your new time zone under the red arrow at 12 o'clock. Each press moves the hour hand forward one hour and turns the city disk and the 24-hour ring one step counterclockwise; meanwhile the time-zone mechanism is uncoupled from the movement, so the minute hand stays accurate. The crown has two positions: pushed in, it winds the watch; pulled out, it sets the time.

6. What movement is in the 5230P-001?
Caliber 240 HU, Patek Philippe's ultra-thin self-winding World Time movement. It is 3.88 mm high, with 33 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour (3 Hz), a Gyromax balance, a Spiromax balance spring and at least 48 hours of power reserve. A 22K gold mini-rotor set into the level of the bridges, a design Patek Philippe patented in 1977, winds it. It carries the Patek Philippe Seal, Patek Philippe gives its rate tolerance as -3 to +2 seconds a day, and it shows through the sapphire caseback.

7. How big is the 5230P-001?
The platinum case is 38.5 mm across and 10.23 mm thick. Patek Philippe's data for the Ref. 5230 case gives 46.91 mm across the lugs, 41.45 mm from 9 to 3 o'clock including the crown, and 20 mm between the lugs. The bezel is narrow and polished, and the lugs are winglet-style.

8. Does the 5230P-001 have a date, and is it water resistant?
It has no date: it shows hours, minutes and the time in all 24 zones with day and night. Patek Philippe's World Time with a date is the 40 mm 5330G-001, whose caliber 240 HU C shows a date that follows local time. The 5230P-001 is water resistant to 30 m (3 bar).

9. How much is the Patek Philippe 5230P-001?
This Bizak & Co. listing is from $68,197 (October 24, 2026); the quote for a specific watch confirms its price with the strap, box and papers that come with it. For scale, Time and Watches reported a launch price of €64,550 in August 2022.

10. Is Bizak & Co. an authorized Patek Philippe retailer?
No. Bizak & Co. is an independent dealer, not an authorized retailer, and is not affiliated with, sponsored or authorized by Patek Philippe. The specific watch is inspected before dispatch, as set out in our buyer protection terms.
