Rolex Day-Date 36 36 mm 118238BSP Yellow Gold Black Rolex Day-Date 36 36 mm 118238BSP Yellow…

The Rolex Day-Date is widely regarded as the most prestigious watch in the Rolex catalog, introduced in 1956 as the first wristwatch to display the full day of the week spelled out at 12 o'clock alongside the date at 3 o'clock. Worn by world leaders, heads of state, and cultural icons, the Day-Date earned its enduring nickname — the "President's Watch" — a title that extends to its signature bracelet. Reference 118238BSP belongs to the 118238 family, the modern 36mm yellow gold Day-Date generation that upheld every tradition of its predecessors while incorporating Rolex's contemporary manufacturing standards.

The 36mm case of the 118238BSP is crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold, Rolex's proprietary alloy developed in-house for exceptional luster and durability. At 36mm, the case diameter sits at the classic Day-Date proportion — a size that has graced the wrists of statesmen and tastemakers for decades and remains as relevant today as ever, equally suited to formal occasions and refined daily wear. The case is paired with a yellow gold fluted bezel, one of the most architecturally distinctive bezel styles in watchmaking, whose 44 sharp ridges catch and scatter light with unmistakable brilliance.

The dial of this reference is finished in black, offering a striking contrast against the warm yellow gold surround. Index hour markers — likely set in precious metal — provide clean, legible timekeeping anchored by Rolex's signature hands. The day display at 12 o'clock and date aperture at 3 o'clock complete the quintessential Day-Date layout, giving the wearer both complications at a glance in the most elegant possible format. The black dial colorway is a perennially sought-after choice among Day-Date collectors for its versatility and visual impact.

Beneath the caseback, the watch is driven by an automatic movement — Rolex's self-winding mechanical caliber, a technology the brand helped pioneer and has continuously refined. The movement is housed in an Oyster case rated to 100 meters (330 feet) of water resistance, underscoring that this is not merely a jewel to be locked away but a fully functional precision instrument built to Rolex's exacting standards. The screw-down crown and solid case construction ensure the movement is protected in everyday conditions.

The President bracelet is perhaps the most celebrated bracelet in fine watchmaking. Crafted in matching 18k yellow gold, its three-piece semi-circular links lend the watch a fluid, almost liquid drape on the wrist — comfortable across a full day yet unmistakably authoritative in presence. The clasp integrates discreetly into the bracelet design, preserving the clean, uninterrupted aesthetic that has defined the Day-Date since the bracelet's debut.
