The Rolex 218235 is the Day-Date II in 18 kt Everose gold, Rolex’s rose gold: a 41 mm Oyster case with a fluted Everose bezel, the President bracelet and the self-winding calibre 3156. Rolex made it from 2008 until the 40 mm Day-Date 40, reference 228235, replaced it in 2015. What sets the 218235 apart

• A 41 mm Day-Date. Rolex introduced the 41 mm case with the Day-Date II in 2008. The Day-Date is made today in 36 and 40 mm, so 41 mm belongs to the Day-Date II alone.
• Calibre 3156. The movement that arrived with the Day-Date II brought what were then Rolex’s latest advances, the Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers. It has 31 jewels and about 48 hours of power reserve, and the dial reads Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified.
• 18 kt Everose gold throughout. Case, bezel and bracelet are Everose, the pink gold Rolex introduced in 2005: at least 75% gold and 20% copper, with palladium and indium, cast in Rolex’s own foundry in Geneva so that its colour does not fade.
• Black dial, baton markers. Rose gold baton hour markers on a black dial, the day of the week never abbreviated in the arched window at 12 o’clock and the date under the Cyclops lens at 3.
• Fluted bezel. Rolex presented the fluted bezel on the Oyster in 1926, when the fluting screwed it tightly to the case; it has been friction-fitted since 1953 and is made only in 18 kt gold or 950 platinum.
• President bracelet. Created for the Day-Date’s launch in 1956 and made only in 18 kt gold or 950 platinum, with semi-circular three-piece links and a concealed Crownclasp. Rolex added ceramic inserts to the bracelet in 2015, the year the Day-Date II was replaced.
• Oyster case. A screw-down case back and winding crown and a sapphire crystal; waterproof to 100 metres (330 feet).

The 218235’s successor is the Everose Day-Date 40, reference 228235: 40 mm, calibre 3255 with the Chronergy escapement and about 70 hours of power reserve, certified to −2/+2 seconds a day after casing, and a President bracelet with ceramic inserts. It starts at $54,200 at Rolex US retail (rolex.com, October 19, 2026), and Bizak & Co. lists it from $43,059 on our rose gold Day-Date 40 page, so a current 228235 can cost less than a black-dial 218235. • The dial. Three black 218235 dials share one price here, so have the quote name the dial and ask for daylight photos of it.
• Guarantee card and papers. Ask for a photo of the Rolex guarantee card, check that the reference on it reads 218235, and have the box and papers named in the quote.
• The bracelet. Rolex added ceramic inserts to the President bracelet in 2015 to make it more resistant; on a 218235, ask for side-on photos of the bracelet to judge wear between the links, and how many links come with it.
