The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15407ST is the Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked in stainless steel: a 41 mm Royal Oak whose dial is the movement itself, the self-winding calibre 3132 with two balance wheels and two hairsprings mounted on a single axis to even out the rate. Audemars Piguet introduced it in 2016, and two steel configurations exist: the 15407ST.OO.1220ST.01 with a slate grey openworked movement and inner bezel, and the later 15407ST.OO.1220ST.02 with a pink gold-toned openworked movement and matching inner bezel. It is not a plain skeleton and it is not a tourbillon; the double balance is its own complication. This guide covers the specifications, what the double balance wheel does, the two configurations, how the 15407ST compares with the time-and-date 15400ST and the flying tourbillon 26735ST, how it wears, dated prices and what to check before buying. Bizak & Co. sources the 15407ST to order; the Royal Oak collection lists the configurations we can seek.

What does the double balance wheel do?
A conventional movement has one balance wheel and one hairspring, and small flaws in the spring or the poise of the wheel show up as rate changes in different positions. In the calibre 3132 Audemars Piguet mounted two balance wheels and two hairsprings on the same staff, one above the other, so the two systems oscillate together and their errors partly cancel. The result is a more stable rate and a visibly unusual regulator: from the front you see two gold-coloured balance wheels turning in unison at 6 o'clock, with the second hairspring sitting above the first. The 3132 is based on the architecture of the calibre 3120 that powered the 41 mm Royal Oak 15400ST, so the layout of bridges is familiar, but the openworking exposes the whole train, the barrel and the double balance. The watch has no date, which keeps the dial side clean and is one quick way to tell it from a time-and-date Royal Oak at a glance.
15407ST.01 vs 15407ST.02: slate grey or pink gold-toned?
The .01 is the original: the movement bridges and plate are finished in slate grey, the inner bezel is slate grey, and the hands and applied markers are white gold. It reads as a monochrome steel watch with gold balances as the only warm note. The .02 arrived a few years later and keeps the same case, bracelet and calibre but finishes the openworked movement in a pink gold tone, with a matching pink gold inner bezel. On the wrist the .02 looks warmer and the movement architecture is easier to read because the pink gold tone contrasts with the steel case. Neither configuration has a solid pink dial; a listing that describes a "pink dial" 15407ST is describing the tone of the movement. Both have the same water resistance, the same clasp and the same 45-hour reserve, so the choice is purely aesthetic.
15407ST vs 15400ST: openworked or time-and-date?
The 15400ST is the 41 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding made from 2012 to 2019, with a solid Grande Tapisserie dial, a date at 3 and the calibre 3120 with about 60 hours of reserve. The 15407ST shares its 41 mm case diameter and bracelet but swaps the dial for an openworked double balance movement and drops the date. The 15400ST is thinner at about 9.8 mm and has the longer reserve; the 15407ST has the complication and the view. On price the two are far apart, because the openworked double balance is hand-finished to a different standard and made in far smaller numbers. The 15400ST guide covers the time-and-date watch; if you want the classic Royal Oak look at the lowest entry, start there.

| Bizak catalogue, 4 Oct 2026 | US$155,864 to 234,410, sourced to order | US$286,803 to 325,499, sourced to order |
Both are 41 mm steel Royal Oaks with openworked movements, and from across a room they can be confused. Up close the tell is at 6 o'clock: the 15407ST shows two stacked balance wheels in a fixed position, while the 26735ST shows a tourbillon cage rotating once a minute. The flying tourbillon is the more expensive complication to make and sits at roughly double the ask. The 26735ST guide covers the tourbillon in detail.
How does the Royal Oak 15407ST wear?
At 41 mm and about 9.9 mm thick, the 15407ST wears like any 41 mm steel Royal Oak: wide across the wrist because of the integrated bracelet, but low to the skin. Wrists above about 17 cm (6.7 inches) carry it well. The difference from a solid-dial Royal Oak is legibility: with the movement on show, the hands sit over a dense background of bridges and wheels, and reading the time takes a beat longer, especially on the .01 where the hands and the movement are both grey-toned. The .02's pink gold tone gives the white hands more contrast. The watch has no date to set, and the hacking seconds make synchronising it simple. The bracelet and clasp are the same as on the 15400ST and 15510ST, so sizing and comfort are identical.
How much is a Royal Oak 15407ST? Retail and dealer prices in 2026
- Retail. Audemars Piguet publishes pricing on its product pages by market and allocates the openworked Royal Oaks through its boutiques. The steel double balance wheel has been priced well above the steel Selfwinding and below the flying tourbillon throughout its production; the AP pages linked above carry the current list figure for your market.
- Secondary market. In 2025 and 2026 the 15407ST has generally traded above retail on the secondary market, with the pink gold-toned .02 at the top and pre-owned .01 examples below unworn ones. Asks vary widely with condition and set, and the pool of sellers is small.
- Bizak catalogue asks. On October 4, 2026 Bizak's sourced catalogue listed the 15407ST.OO.1220ST.01 at US$164,800 brand new, a pre-owned 15407ST.OO.1220ST.01 at US$155,864, and the 15407ST.OO.1220ST.02 at US$234,410 brand new, all sourced to order. Those are three entries, not a market median.
Ask for a dated quote for the exact suffix, year and set; our Audemars Piguet price guide explains how AP pricing is built and what moves it.
Is the 15407ST a good investment?
It is a watch to own rather than to trade. The openworked Royal Oaks are made in small numbers and have held value well, but the buyer pool at this price is thin and selling takes longer than selling a steel Selfwinding. A full set with the AP warranty card, the box and the removed links is the version that resells cleanly. If you are choosing between the .01 and the .02 on value grounds, the .02 has commanded the higher ask since it appeared; if you are choosing on looks, the slate grey .01 is the purer steel watch.
Buying a 15407ST: what to check
- Full reference. Confirm 15407ST.OO.1220ST.01 or .02 on the warranty card and caseback. 15400ST and 15510ST are time-and-date watches with solid dials; 26735ST is the flying tourbillon; 15305ST is the earlier 39 mm openworked Royal Oak.
- Balance wheels. Two balance wheels should be visible at 6 o'clock, stacked on one axis, both turning. Ask for a short video with the watch running.
- Movement tone. Slate grey on the .01, pink gold tone on the .02, with the inner bezel to match. A mismatch between movement tone and the suffix on the card is a reason to stop.
- Case and bezel. The eight hexagonal screws should sit aligned; the brushed surfaces and polished chamfers should meet in sharp lines. Rounded edges mean polishing, which matters more on a watch at this price.
- Bracelet. Count the links and ask for the removed links. Check the clasp for play.
- Service. A 2016 to 2019 example is approaching or past its first service window. Ask whether it has been serviced by Audemars Piguet and request the paperwork; the AP services page explains what a full service covers.
- Price against the band. A 15407ST offered well below the asks above deserves a careful look at the seller before the watch.
