The Cartier Santos de Cartier WHSA0019 is the Large skeleton Santos in steel with a yellow gold bezel: a 39.8 mm by 47.5 mm case from the 2018 generation of the Santos, the hand-wound calibre 9611 MC whose bridges are cut into the Roman numerals of the dial, a steel bracelet with Cartier's SmartLink sizing and the QuickSwitch strap-change system. It is the two-tone middle ground between the all-steel skeleton Santos and the solid gold versions, and the one most buyers ask about when they want the open-worked dial without a full gold case. This guide covers the specifications, what the skeleton changes against a standard Santos, how the WHSA0019 compares with its two-tone and all-steel siblings, how it wears, price context and what to check before buying. Bizak & Co. sources the WHSA0019 to order; the Santos de Cartier collection lists the configurations we can seek.

What does the skeleton change against a standard Santos de Cartier?
Three things. The first is the movement: a standard Santos Large uses the automatic calibre 1847 MC behind a solid silvered dial with a date at 6, while the skeleton uses the hand-wound 9611 MC and has no date. The second is the view: the 9611 MC was designed so that its bridges form the Roman numerals XII, III, VI and IX, so the "dial" is the movement itself, finished with brushed and bevelled surfaces that you see from the front and through the sapphire caseback. The third is the ritual: you wind it by the crown, and with a reserve of about three days a watch worn on weekdays and left at the weekend will usually need a top-up on Monday. The case dimensions are the same as the standard Large, so the WHSA0019 wears like any Large Santos; the difference is entirely in what you look at.
WHSA0019 vs W2SA0009 vs the all-steel skeleton: which Santos?
| WHSA0019 | W2SA0009 | All-steel skeleton Large | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Case | Steel with yellow gold bezel | Steel with yellow gold bezel | Steel throughout (several dial-bridge finishes; the ADLC version is WHSA0009) |
| Dial | Skeleton, Roman numeral bridges | Silvered opaline, Roman numerals, date at 6 | Skeleton, Roman numeral bridges |
| Movement | 9611 MC, manual | 1847 MC, automatic | 9611 MC family, manual |
| Bizak catalogue ask, 17 Oct 2026 | US$28,615 brand new | US$13,499 | From about US$24,700 for a blue-bridge steel skeleton to US$31,499 for a plain steel skeleton |
| Who it suits | Wants the open dial and some gold without a full gold case | Wants the two-tone Santos as a daily watch with a date | Wants the skeleton in the quietest case |
The W2SA0009 is the same case and bezel colours with a conventional dial and the automatic movement, and on 17 October 2026 our catalogue listed it at less than half the ask of the WHSA0019. If you want the two-tone Santos as a daily watch, it is the rational choice. The skeleton is bought for the movement in view, and among the skeleton references the WHSA0019 adds the gold bezel for a modest step over the steel versions. Above it sit the solid rose gold skeleton WHSA0016 and yellow gold skeleton WHSA0042, which our catalogue listed at US$45,584 and US$60,060 on the same date.
How does the Santos skeleton WHSA0019 wear?
At 39.8 mm wide the Large Santos reads bigger than a 40 mm round watch because the square case fills the wrist corner to corner, and the 47.5 mm length is the number to compare against your wrist. It wears flat: the Santos case is thin for its width and the bracelet is articulated in short links, so it drapes rather than stands. The bracelet is the reason many people choose the Santos over other integrated designs: SmartLink lets you add or remove links by pressing the button on the underside of each removable link, no tool needed, and QuickSwitch releases the whole bracelet with the two buttons on the end pieces so a strap can go on in seconds. Wrists from about 16 cm (6.3 inches) carry the Large well; below that the Medium Santos is the better fit, though it is not offered as a skeleton in this configuration.
Calibre 9611 MC: what to know about the skeleton movement
The 9611 MC was introduced in the Santos 100 skeleton of 2009 and carried into the 2018 Santos de Cartier. It is a manual calibre built from the outset as a skeleton rather than a standard movement with the plates cut away, which is why the numerals read cleanly and the gear train sits where it can be seen. It is not chronometer-certified, so the COSC standards that apply to Rolex or Omega are not the right benchmark here; expect good everyday accuracy and have it regulated at service if it drifts. Service on a skeleton is more involved than on a solid-dial watch because every surface is on show and finishing must be preserved, so budget for Cartier or a Cartier-trained watchmaker rather than a general service.
How much is a Cartier Santos skeleton WHSA0019? Price context in 2026
- Retail. Cartier publishes the list price on its website and in boutiques; it changes with Cartier's periodic adjustments, so we do not quote it here. The skeleton references sit well above the standard Santos de Cartier Large and below the solid gold skeletons.
- Secondary market. Through 2025 and 2026, two-tone skeleton Santos examples have generally been offered below retail when pre-owned and around or a little under retail when unworn, with the yellow gold bezel versions less common than the all-steel skeletons. Cartier skeletons also appear in the watch sales at Phillips and Sotheby's, which are a useful check on where larger gold and platinum skeletons settle.
- Bizak catalogue ask. On October 17, 2026 our sourced catalogue listed the WHSA0019 at US$28,615 brand new, sourced to order, alongside the two-tone W2SA0009 at US$13,499 and the all-steel Large WSSA0018 with box and papers at US$7,903.
Those figures describe what we saw and will move. Ask for a dated quote for the exact configuration, year and card; our guide to Cartier value retention explains how Cartier prices behave against Rolex and Audemars Piguet.
Is the Santos skeleton a good investment?
It is a watch to own. Cartier's strongest secondary performance has been in the Tank and in the standard Santos de Cartier, where retail increases pulled pre-owned prices up behind them. Skeletons are a smaller market: fewer buyers, more specific taste, and a wider spread between a full-set unworn example and a worn one with service history. Buy the WHSA0019 because you want the 9611 MC on display with a gold bezel; if resale ranks first, the plain two-tone W2SA0009 or an all-steel Santos is the easier watch to sell.
Buying a Santos skeleton WHSA0019: what to check
- Reference and card. The warranty card should read WHSA0019 and the serial on the caseback should match it. Cartier's international warranty runs eight years when the watch is registered, so ask whether the first owner registered it.
- Bridges and finishing. Look at the Roman numeral bridges under a loupe: the bevels should be even and the brushed surfaces unmarked. Scratches on a skeleton are inside the sapphire and cannot be polished out without a movement service.
- Crown and winding. Wind the watch fully from rest and feel for a smooth, consistent action; the crown should pull to the setting position with a clean click and the hands should set without play.
- Bezel. The yellow gold bezel marks more easily than the steel case; check the screw slots are undamaged and aligned, which tells you whether the bezel has been removed.
- Bracelet and SmartLink. Press every SmartLink button and confirm the links release and lock; count the links against the full-length bracelet and ask for any removed links. Test QuickSwitch on both sides.
- Second strap. If a leather strap was supplied, it should be in the box with its QuickSwitch end pieces; a missing strap is a negotiating point, not a deal-breaker.
- Price against the band. A brand-new WHSA0019 offered well below the asks above is the single most reliable warning sign.
