The Richard Mille RM 30 is the brand's automatic watch with a declutchable rotor: a self-winding mechanism that disconnects the rotor from the mainspring barrel once the watch is fully wound, so the movement is not forced to keep winding. The original reference is the RM 030, introduced in 2011, and its successor is the RM 30-01. Both are skeletonised and show how much power is stored. Bizak & Co. sources these watches to order and does not hold them in stock.

Specifications below are drawn from the maker's archive page for the RM 030 and from launch coverage of the RM 30-01; check the maker's current documentation before relying on any figure. What is a declutchable rotor?
A declutchable rotor is an oscillating weight that can be mechanically separated from the winding train. In a conventional automatic, the rotor keeps turning the barrel whenever you move your wrist, and a slipping spring inside the barrel absorbs the surplus once the spring is full. Richard Mille's approach instead disengages the rotor with a dedicated gear system, so the rotor spins freely and puts no further load on the barrel. When the reserve falls, the rotor is clutched back in and winding resumes automatically.
How does the RM 030 rotor decide when to wind?
According to the maker's archive page, the RM 030 rotor declutches when the power reserve reaches 50 hours and clutches back in when it drops to 40 hours, then winds until the indicator returns to 50. That cycle keeps the watch in a working band of stored energy instead of sitting at maximum tension. The movement is the calibre RMAR1, a skeletonised automatic with a variable-inertia free-sprung balance carrying four small adjustable weights, running at 4 Hz.
What do the indicators on the dial show?
The RM 030 carries a winding indicator and a power reserve indicator. The winding indicator, at 12 o'clock, reads on when the rotor is engaged and winding, and off when it has been disengaged. The power reserve indicator shows the stored energy in hours. The RM 30-01 keeps both ideas and adds a function selector, which, as described in launch coverage, is operated by a pusher and cycles between winding, date correction and hand setting, with the chosen mode shown by an indicator hand. Its clutch indicator is reported at 11 o'clock.
What is the difference between the RM 030 and the RM 30-01?
The RM 30-01 is the second generation of the RM 030: a new calibre, RMAR2, plus a function selector and a clutch indicator on the dial. Both use a declutchable variable-geometry rotor and a skeletonised layout, and both are quoted at roughly 55 hours of power reserve.
| Detail | RM 030 | RM 30-01 |

| Introduced | 2011 | 2023 |

What case options does the RM 30-01 come in?
Launch coverage describes two versions: a case fully in grade 5 titanium, and a grade 5 titanium caseband paired with a red gold caseback and bezel. The case measures about 42 mm wide by roughly 50 mm lug to lug and just under 18 mm thick, with a sapphire dial, bezel crystal and caseback, and water resistance quoted at 50 metres. That is splash and rain protection rather than a swimming rating, so treat it as a dress and daily watch, not a dive piece. Richard Mille has also released limited editions of the RM 030 in other finishes, so the reference on the caseback matters when you compare examples.
How much does a Richard Mille RM 30 cost?
Expect a six-figure sum in US dollars on the secondary market, with the range depending on the case metal, the edition, condition and whether the box and papers are complete. Treat this as a loose band, not a quote: prices for Richard Mille move, and a sourced unit can land differently from any listing you have seen. A sourcing deposit reserves the search and is credited toward the price of the watch if we find the right one.
What should you check on an RM 30 before buying?
- The reference and edition. Confirm RM 030 versus RM 30-01 and whether the watch is a limited edition.
- The indicators. The winding and power reserve displays should respond correctly as the watch is worn and wound.
- Service history. Ask for dated service records and who performed them, because this is a complex skeletonised movement.
- Case and bezel condition. Titanium and red gold both show wear differently, so ask for clear detail photographs of the exact unit.
- Papers and warranty status. Record the card, serial and any warranty dates in writing.

Quick answers
What is the Richard Mille RM 30?
It is Richard Mille's automatic watch with a declutchable rotor, first released as the RM 030 in 2011 and followed by the RM 30-01. The rotor disengages from the barrel when the watch is wound, then re-engages as the reserve falls.
How long is the RM 30 power reserve?
Sources quote about 55 hours for both the RM 030 and the RM 30-01, with the RM 30-01 given a stated tolerance. Treat it as an approximate figure.
Is the RM 30-01 water resistant?
Launch coverage quotes 50 metres. That suits everyday wear, but it is not a rating for swimming or diving.
What is the RM 30-01 made of?
Coverage describes a grade 5 titanium case, and a second version with a red gold caseback and bezel on a titanium caseband.
