Three things move a Concept’s price most. The complication: an earlier GMT Tourbillon starts at $110,209 and a titanium Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date at $157,132, while the RD#1 Supersonnerie minute repeater is $555,489. The gem setting: the 38.5 mm Flying Tourbillon starts at $188,511 with brilliant-cut diamonds and $325,499 with baguette-cut diamonds, and gem-set yellow gold takes a Tourbillon Chronograph to $929,907. And the edition: the KAWS Companion, at $444,120, costs more than twice a Flying Tourbillon GMT, from $169,435. What makes the Royal Oak Concept different
The Royal Oak, designed by Gérald Genta and launched in 1972, set the octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws and the integrated bracelet. The Royal Oak Offshore, born in 1993, made it bigger and sportier. The Concept followed in 2002: inspired by concept cars and first planned by Audemars Piguet as a one-off limited edition of 150 pieces, it became AP’s platform for new materials and complications. Audemars Piguet’s own specifications for the 24 Concept references on its site show how far it moved from the Royal Oak:
-
Every model is a complication. Flying tourbillons, tourbillons, a split-seconds chronograph and a minute repeater: there is no time-only Concept.
-
Every model is on a strap, rubber, alligator or calfskin with an AP folding clasp, not the integrated bracelet, and many come with a second strap.
-
Most are hand-wound. Only calibre 2949 in the 26587 and calibre 4407 in the 26650 are selfwinding. Power reserves run from 42 hours for the Supersonnerie’s calibre 2937 to 237 hours, about ten days, for the Flying Tourbillon GMT’s calibre 2954.
-
Cases are titanium, carbon or gold, 38.5 to 44 mm across and 11.4 to 17.5 mm thick, often with a ceramic bezel, and water resistant to 20, 50 or 100 m.
-
Firsts. The 26587 was the first selfwinding Concept since 2002. The 26650, launched in 2023, is AP’s second single split-seconds chronograph wristwatch, and its split-seconds mechanism sits in the oscillating weight. The 26589IO.OO.D056CA.01 brought the line its first green bezel, and the 26630 its first Frosted Gold case, a Florentine jewellery technique revisited by Carolina Bucci.
For an openworked Royal Oak on a bracelet instead, see Royal Oak Openworked; our guide to AP complications and movements explains the tourbillon, the chronograph and the minute repeater.
Which Royal Oak Concept to buy
-
For the lowest price: an earlier GMT Tourbillon 26560IO from $110,209, or a pre-owned Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon 26630BC from $116,249.
-
For a current model: the green-bezel Flying Tourbillon GMT from $190,547 or the carbon Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date from $249,999.
-
For a selfwinding watch: the Split-Seconds 26650 from $157,132 or the Tourbillon Chronograph 26587TI at $316,199. Every other Concept here is hand-wound.
-
For a smaller wrist: the 38.5 mm Flying Tourbillon, 11.4 to 11.9 mm thick. Audemars Piguet describes the diamond-set version as the Concept’s first model for women and lists the gem-set versions and the Frosted Gold “Tamara Ralph” with its women’s watches; see also Royal Oak Frosted Gold.
-
For a chronograph: the split-seconds 26650, the tourbillon chronographs 26587 and 26223, or the Laptimer 26221FT, where the pusher at 9 o’clock stops one seconds hand on the last lap while the other returns to zero to time the next, as Phillips describes it.
-
For a chiming watch: the Supersonnerie 26577. Read Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie (RD#1) explained.
-
For a collaboration: the Black Panther, the Spider-Man (AP’s second Marvel watch), the KAWS Companion or the Tamara Ralph Frosted Gold edition. Audemars Piguet calls the burgundy 26589IO.OO.D500CA.01 one of a kind.
What to check before you pay the balance
-
The full reference. Each suffix is a different watch. On the 26589IO, Audemars Piguet’s D030CA has a grey ceramic bezel and a blue strap, the D056CA a green bezel and the D500CA a burgundy movement and strap; on the 26587TI, the D010CA, D031CA and D067CA have white, blue and red accents. Match the papers to the bezel, dial and strap in the photos.
-
The edition number. On a limited edition such as the Black Panther (250 pieces) or the Laptimer (221), the number on the watch should match the papers. Audemars Piguet engraves “Limited Edition” on the caseback of the 26650FA.
-
Both straps. Audemars Piguet supplies many Concept references with a second strap, such as the extra black rubber strap of the 26589IO and the 26587TI. Ask which straps and clasps a quote includes.
-
Winding and power reserve. A hand-wound Concept should wind smoothly and run close to its maker’s figure: 237 hours for calibre 2954, 77 for calibre 2951, 72 for calibres 2964, 2965, 2974 and 2979, and 42 for the Supersonnerie’s calibre 2937.
-
Water resistance. The gem-set 38.5 mm Flying Tourbillons and the Supersonnerie are rated to 20 m, the Spider-Man and the Split-Seconds to 50 m, and the Flying Tourbillon GMT, the 26587 and the Companion to 100 m.
-
The warranty card date. Audemars Piguet gives two years, or five for watches bought through its authorized network since 1 January 2017, subject to its International Sales Warranty.
-
Service and accessories. Ask when the watch was last serviced and which box, papers and accessories come with it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept?
It is Audemars Piguet’s experimental Royal Oak. AP launched it in 2002 for the Royal Oak’s 30th anniversary, inspired by concept cars and first planned as a one-off limited edition of 150 pieces; it has since become AP’s platform for new materials, designs and complications, in 38.5 to 44 mm titanium, carbon or gold cases on straps.
How much is a Royal Oak Concept?
Audemars Piguet shows its current Concept models as price on request. On Bizak today a Royal Oak Concept starts at $110,209 for an earlier GMT Tourbillon 26560IO; the Flying Tourbillon GMT starts at $169,435, the Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date at $157,132 and the gem-set 38.5 mm Flying Tourbillon at $188,511, and a gem-set yellow gold Tourbillon Chronograph reaches $929,907. These are live asking prices.
Which Royal Oak Concept models are current?
Audemars Piguet’s site lists four: the Flying Tourbillon GMT 26589IO.OO.D056CA.01 with a green ceramic bezel, the Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date in CFT carbon, 26650FO.OO.D353CA.01 and the limited 26650FA.OO.D002CA.01 with a yellow gold bezel, and the 38.5 mm Flying Tourbillon 26643TI.OO.D002CA.01, a limited edition made with Yoon and Verbal. Every other Concept is a past model.
What is the difference between the Royal Oak Concept and the Royal Oak Offshore?
The Royal Oak Offshore, born in 1993, is the bigger, sportier Royal Oak. The Concept, from 2002, is AP’s experimental line: every Concept on Audemars Piguet’s site is a complication, such as a flying tourbillon, a split-seconds chronograph or a minute repeater, comes on a strap rather than a bracelet, and is shown as price on request when current.
Is the Royal Oak Concept automatic?
Mostly not. Of the movements Audemars Piguet lists for the Concept, only calibre 2949 in the Tourbillon Chronograph 26587 and calibre 4407 in the Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date 26650 are selfwinding. The Flying Tourbillon, Flying Tourbillon GMT, Spider-Man, Companion and Supersonnerie are hand-wound.
What sizes does the Royal Oak Concept come in?
In Audemars Piguet’s specifications: 38.5 mm for the Flying Tourbillon, 11.4 to 11.9 mm thick; 42 mm for the Spider-Man; 43 mm for the Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date and the Companion; and 44 mm for the Flying Tourbillon GMT, the Tourbillon Chronograph 26587 and the Supersonnerie, 16.1 to 16.5 mm thick.
Is there a women’s Royal Oak Concept?
Yes. Audemars Piguet describes the diamond-set 38.5 mm Flying Tourbillon as the Concept’s first model for women, presented the Frosted Gold Flying Tourbillon as a new feminine look, and lists the gem-set 26227, 26228 and 26229 and the Frosted Gold 26630 “Tamara Ralph” with its women’s watches. On Bizak these 38.5 mm models start at $116,249 for a pre-owned Frosted Gold 26630BC.
Which Royal Oak Concept watches are limited editions?
The Concept itself began as a planned one-off edition of 150 pieces. Later limited editions include the Laptimer Michael Schumacher 26221FT (221 pieces, per Phillips), the Black Panther 26620IO (250 pieces, per Monochrome Watches), the KAWS Companion 26656TI, the Tamara Ralph 26630OR, the 26650FA and the 26643TI, and Audemars Piguet calls the 26589IO.OO.D500CA.01 one of a kind.
What is the power reserve of the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT?
Audemars Piguet gives 237 hours, about ten days, for its hand-wound calibre 2954. The watch shows a second time zone at 3 o’clock and a crown position indicator at 6 o’clock, in a 44 mm titanium case with a ceramic bezel, water resistant to 100 m.
What does RD#1 mean on a Royal Oak Concept?
RD stands for Audemars Piguet’s Research and Development series, which it has run since 2015. AP names the titanium Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie 26577TI as RD#1; on Bizak it is $555,489, and the later 26577IO with a black ceramic bezel starts at $325,499.
How do you check a Royal Oak Concept before it ships?
Before dispatch we confirm the specific sourced watch and arrange its inspection, as our authentication page sets out: the reference and serial against any papers, the movement, the case, the dial and hands, the strap, the documentation and the condition. Any disclosed service replacement is explained to you.
