How the four generations differ
-
RM 035 (calibre RMUL1). The first “baby Nadal”: a hand-wound skeleton movement in a very light case, here in aluminium alloy (the “Baby Nadal”) or the ceramic Toro edition. The most accessible way into the line.
-
RM 35-01 (RMUL3). Introduced in 2014 with a Carbon TPT case and a manual-winding RMUL3 movement with a 55-hour power reserve.
-
RM 35-02 (RMAL1). Presented in 2016, the first self-winding Nadal: Richard Mille built it in answer to clients asking for automatic winding, with a variable-geometry rotor that can be set to the wearer’s activity. Carbon TPT or red Quartz TPT.
-
RM 35-03 (RMAL2). The fourth watch of the collection, after three years of development. Its patented butterfly rotor lets you switch off winding with the SPORT MODE pusher at 7 o’clock, shown by an ON/OFF indicator at 6; a function selector at 2 o’clock chooses winding, neutral or hand-setting. Carbon TPT or Quartz TPT case, water resistant to 50 metres.
Buying advice
Decide first between hand-wound (RM 035, RM 35-01) and automatic (RM 35-02, RM 35-03), then choose the case material: Quartz TPT versions sit well above Carbon TPT. Ask in your quote for close-up photos of the case flanks and bezel screws, the strap and buckle, the serial on the caseback and the warranty documents of the specific watch; our Richard Mille authentication checklist lists what to check. For the self-winding generation in depth, read our RM 35-02 buying guide, and for the whole partnership, Richard Mille’s Rafael Nadal watches. Compare other models on the Richard Mille page or the pre-owned Richard Mille selection; the RM 67-02 is the other athlete-built automatic.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Richard Mille RM 035?
The RM 035 is the Rafael Nadal collection that Richard Mille itself calls the ‘baby Nadal’ watches: lighter, non-tourbillon companions to the RM 027 tourbillons Nadal wears on court. The name covers the original manual-winding RM 035 (calibre RMUL1) and its successors, the RM 35-01, RM 35-02 and RM 35-03.
How much does an RM 035 cost?
On Bizak the line starts from $162,749 for the aluminium-alloy RM 035 “Baby Nadal” (RM035AL). The RM 35-02 starts from $269,699, the RM 35-01 from $308,700, the RM 035 Toro from $325,499 and the RM 35-03 from $330,149, with Quartz TPT RM 35-03 versions from $604,499. Your quote confirms the current figure.
What is the difference between the RM 035, RM 35-01, RM 35-02 and RM 35-03?
The winding. The RM 035 (RMUL1) and RM 35-01 (RMUL3) are manual-winding. The RM 35-02 added automatic winding with the RMAL1 calibre and a variable-geometry rotor. The RM 35-03 uses the RMAL2 calibre with a patented butterfly rotor that the wearer can switch off with a pusher at 7 o’clock.
Is the RM 035 automatic?
The original RM 035 and the RM 35-01 are hand-wound. If you want a self-winding Nadal watch, choose the RM 35-02 or RM 35-03; Richard Mille says the RM 35-02 was made because many clients asked for a self-winding Nadal calibre.
What does the butterfly rotor on the RM 35-03 do?
Pressing the SPORT MODE pusher at 7 o’clock deploys the rotor’s two weights to 180°, which balances the rotor and stops it winding, so hard sport cannot over-wind the movement. An ON/OFF indicator at 6 o’clock shows its state. Richard Mille quotes a power reserve of about 55 hours.
