126506 or 116506: which ice blue Daytona?

Rolex launched the platinum 116506 at Baselworld 2013 for the Daytona’s 50th anniversary, pairing the ice blue dial with a chestnut brown Cerachrom bezel. It runs on calibre 4130, the chronograph movement Rolex introduced in 2000, behind a solid case back. In 2023 Rolex redesigned the Daytona’s case and dial, and the platinum model became the 126506: 40 mm, waterproof to 100 m, with calibre 4131 and its Chronergy escapement, about 72 hours of power reserve, a platinum edge around the Cerachrom bezel and a transparent case back that shows an 18 kt yellow gold oscillating weight.

On Bizak the 116506 costs less: from $77,189 with index hour markers (a second listing is $85,559), $83,699 pre-owned with diamond hour markers (or $92,999) and $130,199 pre-owned with Eastern Arabic numerals. The 126506 starts above Rolex’s retail price, and in our catalogue the diamond version is the cheaper one: $113,459 against $91,200 retail, while the index version is $130,284 against $84,600. Gem-set platinum Daytonas: 116576TBR and 126576TBR

The TBR references add diamonds to the platinum Daytona. The 116576TBR, introduced at Baselworld 2014, has a bezel set with 36 baguette-cut diamonds; at launch it came with a dial paved with 437 diamonds and ice blue counters, at 148,000 Swiss francs. Our 116576TBR listing pairs the baguette bezel with an ice blue dial and baguette diamond hour markers, from $195,299 pre-owned. The newer 126576TBR has no page on rolex.com, so it is sold outside Rolex’s published catalogue; Sotheby’s has catalogued a 2024 example with a blue pavé diamond dial and a sapphire display back. The Rolesium 126502: steel, platinum and white enamel

The 126502 is on this page because it uses platinum, but it is not an ice blue Daytona. Rolex presented it in 2026 as an exclusive configuration and the first Rolesium Daytona, combining Oystersteel and platinum: the middle case and the Oyster bracelet are Oystersteel, while the band of metal around the bezel and the case-back ring are platinum. It has a white enamel dial made with the grand feu technique, a Cerachrom bezel in anthracite, a new shade, with the tachymeter numerals set horizontally as on the 1963 original, a transparent case back with a yellow gold oscillating weight, and calibre 4131. Rolex otherwise describes Rolesium as a creation specific to the Yacht-Master. It has no model page or US price on rolex.com; on Bizak it is from $350,000. Ice blue: Rolex’s platinum-only dial

Rolex calls the ice blue dial “the discreet and exclusive signature of a Rolex platinum watch” and uses it only on the Day-Date, the Cosmograph Daytona, the Land-Dweller, the 1908 and the Padellone. So an ice blue Daytona is always platinum, and dealers often call it the “Platona”. Rolex’s other blue Daytona dials belong to other metals: bright blue to the white gold 126509 ($59,100 US retail) and turquoise blue and black to the yellow gold 126518LN on an Oysterflex bracelet ($42,700). What to check before you buy a platinum Daytona

• Ice blue only with platinum. A factory ice blue dial comes only in a platinum case. If the case or bracelet is not platinum, the watch has been modified, and Rolex’s guarantee does not cover watches modified with non-genuine parts such as a dial or bezel.
• Reference, serial and papers. The reference is engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock; match it, the serial and the dial to the warranty card. Our guide to buying a Daytona from a grey dealer covers papers in detail.
• The case back. A 126506 shows its movement and yellow gold oscillating weight through a transparent case back; a 116506 has a solid one.
• The diamonds. The 126506 with diamonds has 8 baguette-cut diamond hour markers and 3 diamond-set markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, and a factory diamond bezel carries its own reference, such as 116576TBR or 126576TBR. Ask whether every stone on the watch is original.
• Wear on the platinum. Rolex describes platinum as soft and highly malleable, so on a pre-owned watch look for softened case edges and polishing marks on the lugs and bracelet.
• Box and papers. A full set with the warranty card changes the price, so check which one you are being quoted.
