The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15550ST.OO.1356ST.01 is the silver-toned version of the 15550ST, the 37 mm stainless steel Royal Oak Selfwinding that Audemars Piguet introduced in January 2022, the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary year. Audemars Piguet names this version Selfwinding “50th Anniversary”: its calibre 5900 carries the “50-years” oscillating weight in rhodium-toned pink gold, under a sapphire caseback. The case is 37 mm across and 9.1 mm thick, water-resistant to 50 m, on a steel bracelet with AP folding clasp. Bizak & Co. lists it from $51,500.

What sets the 15550ST.OO.1356ST.01 apart

• The “50-years” oscillating weight. The January 2022 launch versions of the 15550ST, .01 to .04, carry a “50-years” oscillating weight; on the .01 it is in rhodium-toned pink gold, seen through the sapphire caseback. SJX Watches reported at launch that only watches produced in 2022 would carry it, and Audemars Piguet lists its later steel versions (.06, .07 and .08) without it.
• The only silver-toned steel 15550ST on Audemars Piguet’s website. The dial pairs the “Grande Tapisserie” pattern with white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating. Audemars Piguet’s later steel versions come in “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” (.06), grey (.07) and light blue (.08); for a later silver-toned 15550 it lists the steel and 18-carat pink gold 15550SR.OO.1356SR.02.
• The 2022 dial and case. The new dial drops “AP” at 12 o’clock and “AUTOMATIC” at 6 o’clock, and the applied logo is solid 24-carat gold built up by galvanic growth; slightly wider bevels make the case appear to taper more towards the lugs, and the bracelet tapers more (SJX Watches).
• Calibre 5900. Selfwinding, with hours, minutes, centre seconds and date; 29 jewels, 188 parts, 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), a 60-hour power reserve, 26.2 mm across and 3.9 mm thick.
• Against the 15450ST it replaced. The same 37 mm and 60-hour power reserve, but Audemars Piguet lists the 15450ST at 9.8 mm thick with calibre 3120 (40 jewels, 282 parts, 3 Hz), against 9.1 mm and calibre 5900 for the 15550ST. The steel 15550 launched at US$24,100, the same price as the outgoing 15450 (SJX Watches).

• The full reference. Have the quote and the warranty card read 15550ST.OO.1356ST.01: the suffix separates this silver-toned anniversary version from the other 15550ST dials and from the 37 mm 15450ST it replaced.
• The caseback. Ask for a photo through the sapphire caseback showing the “50-years” oscillating weight in rhodium-toned pink gold.
• The warranty card. Audemars Piguet’s 5-year warranty applies to watches purchased through its authorized network from January 1, 2017, under its International Sales Warranty; ask for a photo of the card and check its date.
• The bracelet. Ask how many links come with the watch and for a photo of the AP folding clasp.
