The Datejust is the watch that defined what a wristwatch looks like. The plain index dial is a flat sunburst blue. The Roman dial swaps the batons for numerals. The fluted-motif dial, which is what this watch has, carries a fine vertical fluting across the surface that mirrors the bezel. In shade it reads as solid navy; turn it toward a window and the pattern lifts out of it. It is the least common of the three and, in our view, the one worth paying for.

The Chronergy escapement is roughly fifteen percent more efficient, which is where the jump from around 48 to around 70 hours of power reserve comes from. In practice that means you can take the watch off on Friday evening and it is still running on Monday morning. Rolex regulates it after casing to minus two and plus two seconds a day, tighter than the COSC standard the movement already passes.

What to check before buying. On any pre-owned Datejust, look hardest at the case edges and lug bevels for over-polishing, which is the most common and least reversible damage. Check the bracelet stretch by holding the watch horizontally and watching for sag between links. Confirm the dial execution matches the description, since the three blue variants carry different values. Verify the serial between the lugs against the papers, and ask for service history.
