Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01 Jumbo Extra-Thin 39 mm steel with blue Petite Tapisserie dial

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15202ST is the steel "Jumbo" Extra-Thin: a 39 mm case about 8.1 mm thick, the ultra-thin self-winding calibre 2121, a Petite Tapisserie dial with a date at 3 and no seconds hand, and an integrated steel bracelet. It is the direct descendant of the 5402ST that Gerald Genta designed for Audemars Piguet in 1972, and it was made from 2000 to 2021, when the 16202ST with the new calibre 7121 replaced it for the Royal Oak's 50th anniversary. "Jumbo" and "Extra-Thin" are collector and catalogue labels for the 39 mm thin line, not nicknames for a particular dial. This guide covers the specifications, the two generations of 15202ST dial, how it compares with the 41 mm 15400ST and the 39 mm 15300ST, how it wears, dealer prices in 2026 and what to check before buying. Bizak & Co. sources the 15202ST to order; the Royal Oak collection lists the configurations we can seek.

What does "Jumbo" mean on a Royal Oak?

In 1972 the original Royal Oak 5402ST was unusually large for a dress-style watch at 39 mm, and the trade called it the Jumbo. The name stuck to the 39 mm thin line even after Audemars Piguet added larger models, so today a Jumbo is any 39 mm Royal Oak with the ultra-thin movement: the 5402, the 14802, the 15202 and the current 16202. "Extra-Thin" is Audemars Piguet's own catalogue description for the same watches, referring to the case depth of about 8.1 mm and the calibre 2121, which is only about 3 mm thick. Neither word is a dealer invention and neither refers to a specific dial colour. The 15300ST, 15400ST and 15500ST are not Jumbos even though the 15300ST shares the 39 mm diameter, because they use the thicker calibre 3120 or 4302 and carry a seconds hand.

Two generations of 15202ST: 0944ST and 1240ST

  • 2000 to 2012, bracelet code 0944ST. The first 15202ST carried the dial layout of its predecessors: "Audemars Piguet" in applied letters at 12 and a small applied "AP" monogram at 6 above "Automatic". Petite Tapisserie dials, with the dark blue dial the best known. The full reference reads 15202ST.OO.0944ST followed by a dial suffix.
  • 2012 to 2021, bracelet code 1240ST. For the 40th anniversary, Audemars Piguet returned the dial to the 1972 layout: the "AP" monogram at 12 with "Audemars Piguet" at 6, a blue Petite Tapisserie dial in the shade collectors call "bleu nuit nuage 50", and a sapphire case back. The full reference reads 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01. This is the version most buyers mean when they say 15202.

The two generations share the case, movement and bracelet construction. The 1240ST is the more sought after because its dial matches the original and because it is the later watch; the 0944ST is the way into a Jumbo at a lower price, and its "AP at 6" dial has its own following. Listings sometimes describe the dial of an 0944ST by a colour word taken from a photograph rather than from the suffix; confirm the dial from the papers and the photographs rather than from the listing title.

15202ST vs 15400ST: Jumbo or 41 mm self-winding?

15202ST 15400ST
Case 39 mm, about 8.1 mm thick 41 mm, about 9.8 mm thick
Movement Calibre 2121, about 40 h, no seconds hand Calibre 3120, about 60 h, centre seconds
Dial Petite Tapisserie, blue Grande Tapisserie, black, silver, blue or slate grey
Years 2000 to 2021 2012 to 2019
Character The historical Royal Oak; thin and quiet The modern everyday Royal Oak; larger and bolder
Bizak catalogue, 4 Oct 2026 US$46,499 to US$86,005 US$27,899 to US$49,183

The 15202ST is the collector's watch and the one with the direct link to 1972; it costs considerably more for the same condition. The 15400ST is the practical choice for daily wear, with a seconds hand, a longer power reserve and a wider dial choice. The 15400ST guide covers the larger watch.

15202ST vs 15300ST: which 39 mm Royal Oak?

Both are 39 mm steel Royal Oaks, which is where the similarity ends. The 15300ST, made from 2005 to 2012, uses the calibre 3120 in a case about 9.4 mm thick, has a Grande Tapisserie dial with centre seconds and was the mainstream self-winding model of its day. The 15202ST is more than a millimetre thinner, has no seconds hand, uses the finer Petite Tapisserie pattern and carries the ultra-thin calibre 2121. On the wrist the 15300ST feels like a sports watch and the 15202ST like a thin dress watch with a sports-watch bracelet. The 15300ST costs a fraction of a 15202ST and is the better value if the 39 mm size is what matters; the 15300ST guide covers it in detail.

15202ST vs 16202ST: the replacement

In 2022 Audemars Piguet replaced the 15202ST with the 16202ST, keeping the 39 mm case and 8.1 mm thickness but fitting the new calibre 7121, with about 55 hours of power reserve, a higher beat rate and a quick-set date. The 16202ST dial is a slightly different blue with a "50" anniversary rotor on the first year's production, and the brand signature at 12 is printed rather than applied as a monogram. Collectors who want the calibre 2121, the movement derived from the Jaeger-LeCoultre 920 that powered the original 5402, want the 15202ST; buyers who want a current reference with a boutique warranty want the 16202ST, and will usually wait for an allocation.

How does the Royal Oak 15202ST wear?

At 39 mm and about 8.1 mm thick the 15202ST is one of the thinnest luxury sports watches ever made in series, and it wears like it. The case sits flat against the wrist, the integrated bracelet tapers and articulates well and the whole watch disappears under a shirt cuff. It suits wrists from about 15.5 cm (6.1 inches) upward; on larger wrists it reads as a slim, elegant watch rather than a small one. The absence of a seconds hand is noticeable for the first week and invisible after that. The calibre 2121 has no hacking seconds and its 40-hour reserve means a watch left off for two days will need resetting. The bracelet has no micro-adjustment, so sizing is by half links.

How much is a Royal Oak 15202ST? Dealer prices in 2026

  • Retail. The 15202ST has been discontinued since 2021, so there is no current list price. Audemars Piguet publishes the price of its successor, the 16202ST, on the collection page linked above, and that figure is the reference point for how much of a premium a pre-owned 15202ST carries.
  • Secondary market. Through 2025 and into 2026, pre-owned 15202ST examples have generally been asked well above the price they sold for new, with 1240ST examples and full sets at the top and 0944ST watch-only examples at the bottom. Prices rose sharply after the 2021 discontinuation and have since settled rather than kept climbing.
  • Bizak catalogue asks. On October 4, 2026 our sourced catalogue listed three steel 15202ST examples: a 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01 at US$86,005, a pre-owned 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01 at US$70,762 and a pre-owned 15202ST.OO.0944ST.01 at US$46,499, all sourced to order. The spread reflects generation, condition and what comes with the watch.

Those figures describe what we saw on that date and will move. Ask for a dated quote for the exact reference, year and set; our Audemars Piguet price guide explains how to compare quotes.

Buying a used 15202ST: what to check

  • Reference and generation. The case back and papers should read 15202ST.OO.0944ST or 15202ST.OO.1240ST with a dial suffix; match the dial layout in the photographs to the generation. A 1240ST dial has the AP monogram at 12; an 0944ST dial has "Audemars Piguet" at 12.
  • Case thickness and chamfers. The thin case leaves little metal for polishing. The bezel chamfers should be bright and sharp and the brushing even; rounded edges mean the watch has been refinished, which matters more on a Jumbo than on any other Royal Oak.
  • Bezel screws. Eight white gold hexagonal screws aligned the same way, without tool marks.
  • Movement. The calibre 2121 is delicate and sensitive to shock; ask when it was last serviced and whether by Audemars Piguet. Through a sapphire case back the gold rotor and bridges should show clean finishing and no corrosion.
  • Bracelet. Check for stretch, for missing links and for a clasp that closes positively. Replacement links for the 0944ST bracelet are harder to find than for the 1240ST.
  • Papers. The warranty card should carry the full reference and a serial matching the case; an extract from the Audemars Piguet archives can confirm an undocumented watch and is worth obtaining at this price level.
  • Price against the band. A full-set 1240ST offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign.

Quick answers

What is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15202ST?

The steel 39 mm Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin made from 2000 to 2021, about 8.1 mm thick, with the ultra-thin calibre 2121, a Petite Tapisserie dial with date and no seconds hand. It descends directly from the 1972 5402ST and was replaced by the 16202ST.

How much is a Royal Oak 15202ST?

There is no current retail price because the reference is discontinued. Bizak's sourced catalogue listed three steel 15202ST examples between US$46,499 and US$86,005 on October 4, 2026, sourced to order, with the 2012 to 2021 1240ST version at the top.

Why is the 15202ST called the Jumbo?

Because the original 39 mm Royal Oak of 1972 was large for its time and the trade called it the Jumbo. The name now applies to every 39 mm Royal Oak with the ultra-thin movement: the 5402, 14802, 15202 and 16202.

What is the difference between the 15202ST and 15400ST?

The 15202ST is 39 mm and about 8.1 mm thick with the calibre 2121, a Petite Tapisserie dial and no seconds hand; the 15400ST is 41 mm and about 9.8 mm thick with the calibre 3120, a Grande Tapisserie dial and centre seconds. The 15202ST costs considerably more.

Does the 15202ST have a seconds hand?

No. The calibre 2121 shows hours, minutes and date only, as the original 5402ST did. The 16202ST that replaced it also has no seconds hand.
