Patek Philippe Cubitus Guide: References, Prices and Cubitus vs Nautilus

Patek Philippe Cubitus 5821/1A-001 in steel with olive green embossed dial and integrated bracelet

The Patek Philippe Cubitus is the collection Patek introduced in October 2024, its first new line since the Aquanaut in 1997: a square case with rounded corners, a horizontally embossed dial and an integrated bracelet that borrow openly from the Nautilus. It launched at 45 mm in three references, the steel 5821/1A-001 with an olive green dial, the steel and rose gold 5821/1AR-001 with a blue dial, and the platinum 5822P-001 with a grand date, day and moon phase, and in 2025 Patek added a 40 mm case as the 7128 in white and rose gold. This guide covers the references and specifications, how the Cubitus compares with the Nautilus, how it wears, retail and secondary prices in 2026 and what to check before buying. Bizak & Co. sources the Cubitus to order; the Cubitus collection lists the configurations we can seek.

All Cubitus references are rated to 30 m of water resistance, which is a dress rating rather than a diving one, and all wear the Patek Philippe Seal. Source: the Patek Philippe Cubitus collection page, which lists the current references, and the Nautilus collection page for the sibling line discussed below. Our sourced catalogue also listed a platinum Cubitus perpetual calendar under reference 5840P-001 on 21 September 2026; treat that as a catalogue entry to confirm with us rather than a launch specification, since Patek's page is the authority on what is current.

Where does the Cubitus design come from?

The Cubitus is best understood as a Nautilus redrawn on a square. Gerald Genta's 1976 Nautilus used a porthole case with two lateral "ears", a rounded octagonal bezel and a horizontally ribbed dial; the Cubitus keeps the ribbed dial, the ear-like flanks and the integrated bracelet with its alternating polished and brushed links, and replaces the porthole with a square whose corners are rounded to about the same radius as the Nautilus bezel. Patek presented it in Munich in October 2024 as a collection for a younger client, and the choice of steel with an olive green dial for the entry reference was deliberate: green had already sold out the last steel Nautilus 5711 in 2021. The name is Latin for elbow or forearm, a reference to the angular case. Whatever one thinks of the styling, the Cubitus is the only current way to buy a steel Patek sports watch with an integrated bracelet at retail, because the steel Nautilus 5711 was discontinued in 2021 and its replacement, the 5811, is white gold only.

5821/1A, 5821/1AR or 5822P: which 45 mm Cubitus?

The three launch references share a case but differ in metal, dial and movement. The steel 5821/1A-001 is the volume reference and the one most buyers ask for; its olive green dial reads darker in person than in press photographs and the steel bracelet keeps the weight down. The 5821/1AR-001 puts rose gold on the bezel, crown and centre links with a blue dial, the two-tone formula Patek has used on the Nautilus 5980/1AR, and is the easier of the two to obtain at retail. The platinum 5822P-001 is a different watch in all but shape: the calibre 240 PS CI J LU drives a grand date, a day indication and a moon phase that all jump instantaneously at midnight, a mechanism Patek developed for this reference, and the platinum case and bracelet roughly double the weight of the steel watch. If the complication is the point, the 5822P is the reference; if the shape is the point, the steel watch is the purest expression of it.

Cubitus 40 mm: the 7128 in white and rose gold

The 45 mm case was the most debated part of the 2024 launch, and Patek answered it in April 2025 with a 40 mm Cubitus, reference 7128, in white gold with a blue dial (7128/1G-001) and rose gold with a brown dial (7128/1R-001). The movement is the same calibre 26-330 S C as the steel 5821, so the 7128 is a time-and-date watch on a precious metal bracelet. There is no steel 7128 at the time of writing, which means the smaller case costs considerably more at retail than the larger steel watch. On the wrist the 7128 sits closer to a 40 mm Nautilus 5711 or 5811 in footprint, and it is the reference to consider for wrists under about 17 cm or for anyone who found the 45 mm case too wide.

Cubitus vs Nautilus: how do they compare?

Cubitus 5821/1A-001 Cubitus 7128/1G-001 Nautilus 5811/1G-001
Case 45 mm square, steel 40 mm square, white gold 41 mm porthole, white gold
Dial Olive green, horizontal embossing Blue, horizontal embossing Blue to black gradient, horizontal embossing
Movement 26-330 S C, date 26-330 S C, date 26-330 S C, date

Bizak catalogue ask, 21 Sep 2026 US$102,995 US$139,562 US$212,175

The two lines share the movement, the dial finish and the bracelet construction, so the choice is about shape and availability. The Nautilus has fifty years of history and the stronger secondary market; the Cubitus is the one a new client is more likely to be offered. The Nautilus 5990 guide and the Nautilus collection cover the older line in detail.

How does the Cubitus wear on the wrist?

A 45 mm square case has more dial area than a 45 mm round one, so the 5821 reads large; the saving grace is the thickness, about 8.3 mm on the steel watch, and the short, downturned flanks, which let the bracelet drop straight from the case rather than extending it. Wrists of 18 cm (7 inches) and above carry it comfortably; on smaller wrists the flat top surface can overhang. The bracelet tapers from the case to a fold-over clasp and the links articulate closely, so it sits low and stays in place. The platinum 5822P-001 is noticeably heavier and about a millimetre thicker to accommodate the calendar module. The 40 mm 7128 removes the size objection at the cost of steel.

How much is a Patek Philippe Cubitus? Retail and secondary prices in 2026

  • Retail. At launch in late 2024 Patek's US list prices sat in roughly the low US$40,000s for the steel 5821/1A-001, the low-to-mid US$60,000s for the two-tone 5821/1AR-001 and the high US$80,000s for the platinum 5822P-001; the 40 mm 7128 in gold was priced above the steel 45 mm watch when it arrived in 2025. Current list prices are on the Patek collection page linked above and change with each annual adjustment.
  • Secondary market. Through 2025 and 2026 the steel 5821/1A-001 has traded at a large premium to retail, in the same pattern as the steel Nautilus and Aquanaut before it, because authorised dealers allocate it to established clients. The two-tone and platinum references carry smaller premiums and the 7128 sits between them.
  • Bizak catalogue asks. On 21 September 2026 our sourced catalogue listed the 5821/1A-001 at US$102,995, the 5821/1AR-001 at US$107,983, the 5822P-001 at US$172,010, the 7128/1G-001 at US$139,562 and the 7128/1R-001 at US$187,253, all brand new and sourced to order. The platinum perpetual calendar 5840P-001 was listed at US$325,084.

Those figures describe what we saw and will move. Ask for a dated quote for the exact reference, year and set; our Patek Philippe price guide explains how the secondary premium works across the range.

Is the Cubitus a good investment?

It is too early to say with confidence, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. The steel reference has behaved like a steel Nautilus in its first two years, trading well above list, but that premium depends on Patek keeping production small and on the design ageing well, and a new shape has no track record. The precious metal and platinum references have followed the usual Patek pattern of a smaller premium that narrows as supply builds. If you want a Cubitus, buy the reference you would wear at a price you can document; if the aim is a store of value, the discontinued steel Nautilus 5711 has the longer record. Ask for a written cash-buy assessment before you commit if resale matters.

Buying a Cubitus: what to check

  • Certificate of Origin. Every Cubitus is recent enough to have its certificate, stamped by the authorised dealer with the sale date; the case and movement numbers on the certificate must match the watch. Patek does not reissue certificates.
  • Warranty status. Patek's warranty runs from the certificate date; a 2024 or 2025 watch should still be inside it. Confirm the dealer stamp is legible.
  • Bracelet length. Count the links and ask whether removed links are included; missing precious metal links are expensive to replace and steel links are not always available quickly.
  • Case edges. The square case has long, flat brushed surfaces and polished chamfers that show polishing more readily than a round case; check that the corners are still crisp and the brushing runs unbroken.
  • Calendar function on the 5822P. The grand date, day and moon phase should jump together at midnight; ask to see the changeover or a video of it.
  • Full set. Box, certificate, hang tags and the spare links form the set that holds value; a watch-only example should be priced accordingly.
  • Price against the band. A brand new steel 5821/1A-001 offered at or near retail from an unknown seller is the single most reliable warning sign.

Quick answers

How much is a Patek Philippe Cubitus?

Patek's US list prices at the 2024 launch sat roughly in the low US$40,000s for the steel 5821/1A-001 and the high US$80,000s for the platinum 5822P-001. Bizak's sourced catalogue listed the steel 5821/1A-001 at US$102,995 and the 5822P-001 at US$172,010 brand new on 21 September 2026.

What size is the Patek Philippe Cubitus?

The launch references 5821/1A, 5821/1AR and 5822P are 45 mm square. The 7128 introduced in April 2025 is 40 mm square and comes in white gold and rose gold.

Is the Cubitus a Nautilus?

No, but it is closely related. It shares the horizontally embossed dial, integrated bracelet and calibre 26-330 S C with the Nautilus 5811 and replaces the porthole case with a square with rounded corners.

Which Cubitus is steel?

Only the 45 mm 5821/1A-001 with the olive green dial is all steel. The 5821/1AR-001 combines steel with rose gold, and the 5822P and 7128 are platinum and gold respectively.

What movement is in the Cubitus?

The 5821 and 7128 use the automatic calibre 26-330 S C with a date. The platinum 5822P-001 uses the micro-rotor calibre 240 PS CI J LU with an instantaneous grand date, day and moon phase.
