The Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167 is the core men's Aquanaut: a 40.8 mm rounded-octagon case with an embossed dial, date and central seconds, on a composite strap or a matching bracelet. Introduced in 2007 as the ten-year update of the original 5065, it is the reference that made the Aquanaut a serious rival to the Nautilus and, since Patek dropped the steel bracelet 5167/1A-001 in 2025, one of its versions is now second-hand only. Patek 5167 specifications

The 5167 is thinner and lighter than a 5711 and its strap makes it the more wearable of the two in hot climates, which is the practical reason it became the Patek sports watch Miami buyers ask us for most often.

5167A vs 5167/1A: strap or bracelet?

Same case, dial and movement; the only difference is what it is attached to. The strap 5167A-001 is the original Aquanaut idea and the one Patek still makes. The bracelet 5167/1A-001 turned the Aquanaut into a closer Nautilus alternative and was quietly removed from the catalogue in 2025, which fixed its supply and lifted its secondary price above the strap watch. If you want a steel Patek on a bracelet at retail, the 5167/1A is no longer a route; if you want an Aquanaut you can wear in the water and swap straps on, the 5167A remains the better watch.

Will the 5167A be discontinued?

Patek has not said so, and the 5167A-001 is listed on its site in 2026. What the 2025 removal of the bracelet version shows is that Patek retires Aquanaut references without notice, the same way it retired the steel 5711 in 2021 and the steel 5712 in 2025. The 5167A has been in production for nearly twenty years and was refreshed with the calibre 26-330 rather than replaced, which suggests it is being kept, but nobody outside Geneva knows. Buy it because you want it, not on a discontinuation rumour.

What is the retail price of a Patek 5167A? Prices in 2026

• 5167A-001 (steel, strap). US retail in the mid US$20,000s in 2026. Retail allocation is among the longest in Patek's catalogue; secondary asks for unworn full sets have generally been in the US$65,000 to 95,000 range in 2025 and 2026, with older examples on the calibre 324 and without papers at the lower end.
• 5167/1A-001 (steel, bracelet, discontinued). No retail. Secondary asks have moved above the strap watch since 2025, broadly US$85,000 to 120,000 for clean full sets.
• 5167R-001 (rose gold, strap). US retail in the high US$40,000s. Secondary asks roughly US$55,000 to 75,000; the rose gold strap watch carries the smallest premium and is the most obtainable 5167.
• 5167/1R-001 (rose gold, bracelet). Retail in the US$70,000s; secondary asks somewhat above retail.

Is the 5167A a good investment? Is it worth the money?

At retail, the 5167A is one of the best-value watches Patek makes: a steel sports Patek for a quarter of what a secondary 5711 costs, and it has never traded below retail. At secondary prices the calculation changes. A premium of roughly three times retail is set by allocation, not by the watch, and the 5167A fell around a third from its 2022 peak before stabilising. It is worth the money as a watch you wear daily for years; as a trade it depends entirely on Patek's production decisions. Buying a 5167: what to check

• Papers. The Certificate of Origin cannot be reissued and an Extract from the Archives is only available for watches sold more than ten years ago. Our serial number check guide explains the numbers.
• Movement version. Calibre 324 S C on earlier watches, 26-330 S C on later ones; a listing's year should match the calibre visible through the caseback.
• Strap. Composite straps crack with age and sun; a replacement Patek strap is expensive, so factor it in and confirm the clasp is the correct fold-over type for the reference.
• Bracelet, on a 5167/1A. Count the links, check for stretch and confirm the clasp closes with no play.
• Dial and case. The embossed pattern should be crisp; rounded bezel edges mean polishing.
• Price against the band. A 5167 offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign.
