Short answer: The Patek Philippe 5524G is the white gold Calatrava Pilot Travel Time: a 42 mm dual-time watch, launched in 2015 as Patek's first Pilot-style model, with two hour hands for local and home time and locking pushers that move local time an hour at a time. The original 5524G-001 has a navy blue dial; today's 5524G-010 has an ivory dial, and the 5524R-001 is the rose gold version. Patek's US retail for the current models is $67,267. The Pilot Travel Time family: every reference and price
Patek's Pilot style draws on the watches it made for aviators in the 1930s, such as a 55 mm hour-angle wristwatch of 1936 from the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva. The 5524 kept the large luminous Arabic numerals, sword-style hands and a clevis prong buckle modelled on parachute-harness fittings, and swapped the hour-angle scale for a second time zone suited to air travel.

How Patek's Travel Time works
The 5524 has two central hour hands. The solid one shows local time, wherever you are; the skeletonized one shows home time. At home they sit one on top of the other and move as one. Pushers on the left of the case move only the local hand, one hour per press: forward at 8 o'clock, back at 10 o'clock. While it moves, that hand is disconnected from the movement, so the minutes and seconds keep their accuracy. Windows marked LOCAL and HOME show day (white, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or night (blue) in each zone, and the date at 6 o'clock follows local time, changing when the local hand passes midnight in either direction.
Setting it when you land:
- Unlock the pushers with a quarter turn counterclockwise. Patek's patented lock prevents accidental changes.
- Flying east, press the 8 o'clock pusher once per hour of time difference; flying west, press the 10 o'clock pusher.
- Lock the pushers again with a quarter turn clockwise. Home time and its day/night window stay as they were.
- Back home, press until the two hour hands overlap and both windows show the same color.
Patek's manual adds three rules: never pull the crown or press the pushers in water or a humid place; make no date correction between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.; and correct the date five times a year, after each month with fewer than 31 days, using the corrector between 6 and 7 o'clock and the stylus supplied with the watch.

5524 vs 5924: the Pilot Travel Time chronograph
Launched in 2023, the 5924 is Patek's first Pilot model with a chronograph. It adds a flyback chronograph with a central seconds hand and a 60-minute counter at 6 o'clock, so its date moves to a subdial at 12. To keep the case clean, the local-time correctors at 8 and 10 o'clock become large push-pieces worked with a stylus, and the chronograph pushers sit at 2 and 4. The calibre keeps a column wheel but uses a vertical disk clutch, so the chronograph hand can run continuously as a seconds hand.

Before you buy a 5524
- Match dial, strap and papers. Navy blue is the 5524G-001, ivory the 5524G-010, brown the 5524R-001. Patek's certificate of origin lists the movement and case numbers, which should match the watch, and is valid only if dated, signed by an authorized Patek Philippe retailer and completed with the owner's name.
- Work the pushers. Each should need a quarter turn to unlock, move the local hand exactly one hour per press in both directions, and change the date when the local hand passes midnight.
- Ask for the stylus and the service record. Patek supplies a correction stylus and recommends a service every eight to ten years.
- Keep the strap dry. The case is rated to 30 m, but Patek advises keeping a leather strap out of direct contact with water.
