5711 vs 5811: what changed?
The 5811/1G combines a larger case with white gold, while the steel 5711/1A is the relevant predecessor for this comparison. “5711” alone is too broad: the family also includes other metals and dial variants, all listed in our Nautilus 5711 guide.

Patek's October 2022 introduction documents the size change, two-part case and bracelet adjustment. Its 2021 Nautilus release confirms the earlier movement update. Stop-seconds therefore does not distinguish the 5811 from every 5711.
Compare actual offers and try the bracelet fit where possible. A preference for white gold or steel is a wearing decision; neither reference's history establishes what a future buyer will pay. What makes the Patek 5811 special?
It is the direct successor to the most requested steel watch of the last decade, and Patek chose not to make it in steel. The 41 mm white gold case, the new two-part construction with a screw-down crown, and the first fine-adjustment clasp on a time-and-date Nautilus are the concrete changes; the scarcity is the same. Because it is the only current time-and-date men's Nautilus, it inherits the 5711's waitlist at authorised dealers.
Why is the Nautilus 5711 discontinued?
Patek announced in January 2021 that the 5711 would leave the collection that year. Thierry Stern said the reference had become too dominant for a brand that makes fewer than 70,000 watches a year and that the Nautilus is one collection among many. The olive-green 5711/1A-014 and the Tiffany Blue 5711/1A-018 closed the run in 2021; the 5811 followed in October 2022.
Which Nautilus is the most desirable?
By secondary-market price, the Tiffany Blue 5711/1A-018 (170 pieces) and the platinum 5711/1P anniversary edition. By demand at retail, the 5811/1G, the 5712/1A and the 5726/1A, all waitlisted. By wearability, most collectors still name the steel 5711/1A-010 for its thinness and neutrality, which is why its secondary price stays far above its last retail price.
Why do sources say either 120 m or 30 m?
Both figures appear in Patek's own material from different dates. The 2022 introduction describes the 5811 case as water-resistant to 120 m. The current reference page lists 30 m. In its April 2024 announcement, Patek introduced a unified 30 m standard for watches certified as water-resistant.
The two published ratings alone do not establish a hardware change, and neither tells you the present condition of a used watch's seals. Ask for the specific watch's service and pressure-test records, and follow the manufacturer's applicable instructions before water exposure.
How much does a Patek 5811 cost? Comparing a quote
The 5811/1G-001 listed at about US$70,000 at its 2022 launch and has risen with Patek's annual price changes; on the secondary market, unworn full-set examples have generally been asked above retail in 2025 and 2026, by a smaller multiple than the discontinued steel 5711. A manufacturer's advertised price, a dealer's asking price and a completed sale answer different questions. An old number copied into a review is not a current offer. Start with the 5811/1G-001 catalogue listing, then obtain written confirmation of the watch and total price available for your request.
- Identify the actual watch. Request dated photographs, the full reference, stated year, condition and confirmation of who currently holds it. Catalogue images alone are insufficient.
- Check the bracelet and finish. Confirm fitted length, included spare links, clasp operation, disclosed polishing and any replacement components. Ask for close views of the bezel, case edges and bracelet.
