The 2022 introduction documents the size change, the two-part case and the bracelet adjustment, and the 2021 Nautilus release confirms the earlier movement update. Stop-seconds therefore does not distinguish the 5811 from every 5711. Whether you prefer white gold or steel is a wearing decision; neither reference's history establishes what a future buyer will pay. What makes the Patek 5811 special?
It is the direct successor to the most requested steel watch of the last decade, and Patek chose not to make it in steel. The 41 mm white gold case, the new two-part construction with a screw-down crown, and the first fine-adjustment clasp on a time-and-date Nautilus are the concrete changes. Because it is the only current time-and-date men's Nautilus, it inherits the 5711's waitlist at authorised dealers. As of September 2026 the 5811 is made only in white gold (5811/1G-001) and a diamond-set version (5811/1460G-001, from $700,399); there is no steel 5811.
Why was the Nautilus 5711 discontinued?
Patek announced in January 2021 that the 5711 would leave the collection that year. Thierry Stern said the reference had become too dominant for a brand that makes fewer than 70,000 watches a year and that the Nautilus is one collection among many. The olive-green 5711/1A-014 and the Tiffany Blue 5711/1A-018 closed the run in 2021; the 5811 followed in October 2022. Which Nautilus is the most desirable?
By secondary-market price, the Tiffany Blue 5711/1A-018 (170 pieces), the platinum 5711/1P anniversary edition and, since its 2025 discontinuation, the steel 5712/1A-001. By demand at retail, the 5811/1G and the 5726/1A (pre-owned from $80,909), both waitlisted. By wearability, most collectors still name the steel 5711/1A-010 for its thinness and neutrality. Why do sources say either 120 m or 30 m?
Both figures appear in Patek's own material from different dates. The 2022 introduction describes the 5811 case as water-resistant to 120 m. The current reference page lists 30 m. In its April 2024 announcement, Patek introduced a unified 30 m standard for watches certified as water-resistant. The two published ratings alone do not establish a hardware change, and neither tells you the present condition of a used watch's seals. Ask for the specific watch's service and pressure-test records, and follow the manufacturer's applicable instructions before water exposure.
How does the 5811/1G-001 wear on the wrist?
At 8.2 mm thick the 5811 stays slim for a 41 mm watch, which is much of the Nautilus appeal: it slides under a cuff and does not perch on the wrist. The extra millimetre of diameter over the 5711 is mostly in the case sides and the dial opening, so the change is easier to see in photographs than to feel. White gold is denser than steel, so the watch carries more weight, and the bracelet distributes it well. The lockable 2 or 4 mm clasp adjustment is the practical improvement over the 5711, whose fixed clasp offered no fine adjustment, so the fit depended entirely on link count. Try the bracelet on the wrist you will wear it on, at the time of day you usually wear it, before you commit. Wrists from about 16 cm (6.3 inches) upward carry it comfortably; on smaller wrists, compare it with a 40 mm reference before deciding.
Is the Nautilus 5811 a good buy?
It is a good buy if you want a white gold Nautilus with time and date and you intend to wear it. A gold sports watch carries a higher entry price than a steel one, and neither history nor a waitlist establishes what a future buyer will pay. Compare the steel 5711 and 5712 alternatives by what you want on the wrist: the 5711/1A-010 for its neutrality, the 5712 for a moon phase, the 5726 for an annual calendar. If resale value matters, ask for a written cash-buy assessment and a dated comparable before you commit.
How much does a Patek 5811 cost?
- Retail. The 5811/1G-001 was reported at about US$70,000 at its October 2022 launch and has been repriced since. On November 2, 2026, patek.com showed a US list price in the high five figures. Confirm the current figure with an authorised retailer in your market.

- Check the bracelet and finish. Confirm the fitted length, included spare links, clasp operation, disclosed polishing and any replacement components. Ask for close views of the bezel, case edges and bracelet.
