Rolex Diamond Bezels: Factory vs Aftermarket, Models and Prices

|Filip Biczak
Rolex Day-Date 40 228348RBR in yellow gold with a factory bezel of 48 round brilliant-cut diamonds, champagne dial and President bracelet

Short answer: Rolex sets diamond bezels at the factory on the Day-Date, the Datejust 31 and 36, the Lady-Datejust, the Cosmograph Daytona, the Land-Dweller and the gold Oyster Perpetual 28 and 34. The reference tells you: RBR means round brilliant-cut diamonds (48 on a Day-Date 40 228348RBR), TBR means trapeze-cut baguettes (60 on a Day-Date 36 128398TBR). Rolex's 2026 US list prices run from $12,950 to $186,200. A diamond bezel on a reference that never had one, such as a 126300 Datejust 41, is aftermarket. On October 19, 2026 Bizak's asks started at $12,089 for a new Datejust 31 278344RBR and $16,925 for a new Datejust 36 126284RBR.

Every factory Rolex diamond bezel in 2026

Rolex's 2026 US catalog lists 47 references with a diamond-set bezel (594 dial and bracelet combinations), all in 18 kt gold, platinum or Rolesor (Oystersteel and gold). Prices are the lowest in each group; dearer versions add diamond dials, gem-set bracelets or a rarer metal.

Round brilliant (RBR) or baguette (TBR)?

Rolex calls RBR bezels "brilliant diamond-set": one ring of round brilliant-cut stones, faceted for sparkle. TBR bezels are "trapeze diamond-set": tapering step-cut stones, what buyers call a baguette bezel, set edge to edge as an unbroken band. On the Daytona they replace the tachymeter scale.

  • More diamond weight. On the Day-Date 36, 60 trapeze-cut stones total 1.80 ct, against 1.36 ct for 52 brilliants.
  • A higher price. With the same white dial and President bracelet, the yellow gold 128398TBR lists at $94,800, $29,400 more than the 128348RBR. On the Day-Date 40 the gap is $39,000 ($112,100 against $73,100, both with silver dials).
  • Fewer metals. Every TBR bezel sits on solid gold or platinum. The two-tone Rolesor Datejusts and Lady-Datejusts come with round brilliants only.

What the diamonds add to the price

Rolex's list prices show what the factory setting costs when everything else matches:

  • Datejust 36, yellow Rolesor, bright black dial, Oyster bracelet: $23,500 for the 126283RBR against $15,150 for the fluted 126233, so $8,350 for 52 diamonds.
  • Day-Date 40, yellow gold, President bracelet: $73,100 for the 228348RBR against $50,400 for the fluted 228238, $22,700 more; baguettes (228398TBR) take it to $112,100.

Secondary-market asks differ. On October 19, Bizak's lowest ask for a new brilliant-cut Day-Date 40 was $53,350, $19,750 under Rolex's lowest list price; two-tone Datejusts sat just under list ($16,925 for a 126284RBR against $18,050) and diamond Daytonas above it ($156,559 for a 126538TBR against $147,000).

Factory or aftermarket: how to tell

Aftermarket bezels are made by other companies and fitted to plain watches. Five checks:

  • Read the reference on the papers. The guarantee card shows the reference and serial number, and a factory diamond bezel is part of the reference: 228348RBR, not the fluted 228238. Older references show it in the digits instead: a Datejust 36 116244 left Rolex with diamonds, a 116234 with a fluted bezel.
  • Know which references never had one. Rolex's catalog has no Datejust 41 with a diamond bezel: the 126300 has a smooth bezel and the 126333 and 126334 fluted ones. A 126300, a 126334 or a 126500LN Daytona (black Cerachrom bezel) with diamonds on the bezel was modified after it left Rolex.
  • Count the stones. Rolex fixes the count for each reference. On today's round brilliant bezels it is 52 on a 36 mm Datejust or Day-Date, 48 on a Day-Date 40, 46 on a Datejust 31, 46 or 44 on a Lady-Datejust and 36 on a Daytona; a different count means a different bezel. Ask for a close-up and count them.
  • Check the metal. Rolex says each stone is "secured in its gold or platinum setting". Diamonds set into a steel bezel are not factory work.
  • Weigh the guarantee and service. Rolex's guarantee does not cover watches "materially modified" with non-genuine parts, the bezel included, and Rolex does not approve aftermarket diamonds or bezels. Dealers report that service centers refuse such watches unless genuine parts are refitted, and that collectors value them far below factory pieces.

Earlier factory diamond bezels

References no longer in Rolex's catalog are a cheaper way into a factory setting. On October 19, 2026 Bizak listed the Lady-Datejust 26 179384 from $10,399, the Datejust 36 116244 at $14,317, the Day-Date II 41 mm 218349 from $44,699, the Pearlmaster 34 81298 from $46,599 (the Pearlmaster no longer appears on rolex.com) and a pre-owned Daytona 116589RBR from $73,999. Our Day-Date buying guide and Datejust buying guide explain each generation.

Quick answers

Which Rolex models have a factory diamond bezel?

In Rolex's 2026 catalog: the Day-Date 36 and 40, Datejust 31 and 36, Lady-Datejust, Cosmograph Daytona, Land-Dweller and gold Oyster Perpetual 28 and 34, 47 references in all, each ending in RBR or TBR.

What do RBR and TBR mean on a Rolex?

They mark a factory gem-set bezel: RBR for round brilliant-cut diamonds, TBR for trapeze-cut (baguette) diamonds. A Day-Date 40 228348RBR left Rolex with 48 diamonds; a 228238 has a fluted gold bezel.

How many diamonds are on a Rolex diamond bezel?

Rolex lists 52 round brilliants on the 36 mm Datejust and Day-Date, 48 on the Day-Date 40, 46 on the Datejust 31 and the two-tone Lady-Datejust, and 44 on the gold Lady-Datejust. Baguette bezels hold 60 stones on the Day-Date 36 and 36 on the Daytona.

Does the Rolex Daytona come with a diamond bezel?

Yes. The white gold 126589RBR and 126579RBR have 36 round brilliants and list from $80,450. Five TBR references have 36 trapeze-cut diamonds and diamond-set lugs, from $147,000. On October 19, 2026 Bizak asked $97,850 for a 126579RBR.

Is there a Rolex Datejust 41 with a diamond bezel?

Not in Rolex's catalog: Datejust diamond bezels come in 31 and 36 mm only, so a Datejust 41 such as a 126300 or 126334 with diamonds on the bezel has an aftermarket one.

Does an aftermarket diamond bezel void the Rolex guarantee?

Yes. Rolex's terms of use say that adding parts not made by Rolex cancels the warranty, and its guarantee excludes watches materially modified with non-genuine parts, naming the bezel. Dealers report that service centers refuse such watches unless genuine parts are refitted.

How much is a Rolex with a diamond bezel?

Rolex lists them from $12,950 (Datejust 31 278344RBR, 24 diamonds on a domed bezel) to $186,200 (the fully set Lady-Datejust 279459RBR). On October 19, 2026 Bizak's asks started at $12,089 for a new 278344RBR.
