Rolex Submariner 116613LN Up Close: Black Rolesor Submariner Guide (2009 to 2020)

|Filip Biczak
Rolex Submariner Date 116613LN in yellow Rolesor with black dial and black Cerachrom bezel

The Rolex Submariner Date 116613LN is the yellow Rolesor Submariner with a black dial and black ceramic bezel, made from 2009 to 2020: a 40 mm case in Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold, a Cerachrom bezel insert, the calibre 3135 and the Glidelock clasp. It sits between the aluminium-bezel 16613 it replaced and the 41 mm 126613LN that replaced it, and it is the black-dial sibling of the 116613LB "Bluesy". This guide covers the specifications, what changed from the 16613, how the 116613LN compares with the 116613LB and the current 126613LN, how it wears, dealer prices in 2026 and what to check before buying one. Bizak & Co. sources the 116613LN to order; the Submariner collection lists the configurations we can seek.

What changed from the 16613 to the 116613LN?

Rolex introduced the 116613 in 2009 as the first Rolesor Submariner with a ceramic bezel, a year before the steel 116610LN received the same treatment. The case stayed at 40 mm but grew visibly: broader lugs, larger crown guards and a heavier presence on the wrist, the "super case" that defined the Submariner for the next decade. The dial markers and hands grew with it. The aluminium insert of the 16613, which faded and scratched, gave way to a Cerachrom ceramic insert that does neither, with the numerals engraved and coated in gold so they match the bezel. The folding clasp with its diver's extension was replaced by the Oysterlock with Glidelock, which lets the wearer adjust the bracelet by about 20 mm in 2 mm steps. The calibre 3135 carried over, by then with the blue Parachrom hairspring, and the engraved rehaut with the serial at 6 became standard. Warranty cover rose from two years to five in mid-2015, so a 116613LN sold new after that point still had Rolex cover into 2020 or later.

Is the 116613LN a Bluesy?

No. The Bluesy nickname belongs to the blue-dial, blue-bezel Rolesor Submariner: the 16613 blue, the 116613LB and the current 126613LB. The 116613LN is the same watch with a black dial and black bezel, and it has no widely used nickname. The two were sold side by side from 2009 to 2020 at the same list price. The black version is the quieter of the pair, reads less obviously as two-tone from across a room, and has usually been easier to find on the secondary market because fewer buyers ask for it by name. If you want the Bluesy, the 126613LB guide covers the current watch.

116613LN vs 116613LB: black or blue Rolesor?

116613LN 116613LB
Dial and bezel Black dial, black Cerachrom Blue dial, blue Cerachrom
Case, movement, bracelet Identical Identical
Nickname None Bluesy
Secondary demand Lower; easier to source Higher; the one most buyers request
Dial ageing Black dials stay black Blue sunburst dials shift with the light; no fading on this generation

Both references cost the same at retail, so any gap on the secondary market is demand for the blue. The black dial is the better choice if you want the gold without the colour, and it pairs more easily with a steel-and-gold Datejust or Day-Date in the same box.

116613LN vs 126613LN: which black Rolesor Submariner?

116613LN 126613LN
Case 40 mm super case, broad lugs 41 mm with slimmer lugs and a wider bracelet
Movement 3135, 48 h 3235, 70 h, Chronergy escapement
Years 2009 to 2020 2020 to date
Bezel Black Cerachrom, gold numerals Black Cerachrom, gold numerals
Clasp Oysterlock with Glidelock Oysterlock with Glidelock
Warranty Expired or expiring; five-year cards from mid-2015 run to 2025 at the latest Five years from purchase

The 126613LN is the one to buy new, with the 70-hour movement and the slimmer, better-proportioned case. The 116613LN is the value route to a ceramic-bezel Rolesor Submariner: the bezel and clasp are the same technology, the movement is the proven 3135, and the saving against a new 126613LN is meaningful. The 126613LN guide covers the current watch, and the 16613 guide covers the aluminium-bezel predecessor if you prefer the slimmer older case. For the all-steel version of this generation, see the 116610LN guide.

How does the Submariner 116613LN wear?

At 40 mm the super case wears larger than its diameter suggests. The broad lugs and crown guards fill the wrist, the solid-link Rolesor bracelet is heavier than the hollow-link bracelets of the 16613, and the gold centre links add a little more weight again. On a wrist of about 17 cm (6.7 inches) or above it sits well; below that it can look wide, and the slimmer 126613LN or an older 16613 may suit better. The Glidelock clasp is the practical advantage over both the 16613 and most other watches of its price: the bracelet can be let out in the afternoon and taken in again without a tool. The gold bezel and centre links pick up fine scratches faster than steel and polish brighter, which is part of how a Rolesor Submariner looks after a few years of wear.

How much is a Rolex Submariner 116613LN? Dealer prices in 2026

  • Retail. Rolex discontinued the 116613LN in 2020, so there is no current list price. The successor 126613LN's US list price is shown on the Rolex Submariner page linked above, and dealer asks for the 116613LN are best read against that figure.
  • Secondary market. Through 2025 and 2026, unworn or near-unworn 116613LN examples with cards have generally been asked at a discount to a new 126613LN, while pre-owned full sets have sat lower again. The black dial has typically been offered a little below the equivalent Bluesy.
  • Bizak catalogue asks. On October 4, 2026 our sourced catalogue listed a brand new 116613LN at US$16,480 and two pre-owned 116613LN examples at US$14,696 each, all sourced to order. The spread reflects condition and what comes with the watch, not two different watches.

Those figures describe what we saw and will move. Ask for a dated quote for the exact year, condition and set; our Submariner price guide explains how to compare quotes.

Is the 116613LN a good investment?

It is a watch to own rather than to trade. Discontinued ceramic Submariners have held value steadily rather than spiked, and the two-tone versions move more slowly than the steel ones because the buyer pool is smaller. The Bluesy has the stronger following, so a 116613LB tends to resell faster; the 116613LN is cheaper to buy for the same reason. A full-set, unpolished example bought at a sensible discount to the current 126613LN is the one that holds its value. If resale matters, ask for a written cash-buy assessment before you commit.

Buying a used 116613LN: what to check

  • Reference and card. The reference between the lugs at 12 should read 116613LN, the serial between the lugs at 6 should match the rehaut engraving, and the card, if present, should carry the same serial. Rolex does not reissue cards.
  • Bezel. The Cerachrom insert should be free of chips at the edge, where a ceramic insert fails if it is knocked, and the gold-coated numerals should be even; a scratched or chipped insert is a service replacement at Rolex rather than a repair.
  • Case and gold. Sharp chamfers on the lugs and even brushing on the case sides; rounded edges mean polishing. Check the gold bezel edge and crown for deep scratches, which show more than on steel.
  • Bracelet and clasp. Solid links should not stretch, but the gold centre links wear faster than the steel outer links; the Glidelock should click firmly through its positions and the Oysterlock should hold.
  • Dial and hands. Black dial with yellow gold surrounds and hands and the Rolex crown at 6 between "Swiss" and "Made"; the lume on dial and hands should match in colour and glow.
  • Movement and service. A 3135 should run within a few seconds a day; ask for the last service receipt and pressure-test date, and budget for a service if the watch is from the early years and has no record.
  • Price against the band. A full-set 116613LN offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign.
