Richard Mille RM 030 Guide: Declutchable Rotor Specs, Editions, RM 029 and RM 30-01 Comparison and Prices

Richard Mille RM 030 automatic with declutchable rotor in titanium with skeletonised dial and oversized date

The Richard Mille RM 030 is the brand's automatic with a declutchable rotor: a tonneau case about 50 mm long, 42.7 mm wide and 14 mm thick housing the skeletonised calibre RMAS7, which disengages its rotor from the winding train once the mainspring is full and shows the state on the dial, alongside an oversized date and a function selector. Richard Mille introduced it in 2011 as the larger sibling of the RM 029 and made it in grade 5 titanium, red and white gold, black, blue and white ceramic, Carbon TPT and gem-set versions until the RM 30-01 replaced it in 2023 with a reworked movement. It is one of the most common Richard Mille references on the secondary market and one of the more accessible ways into the brand's automatic range. This guide covers the specifications, what the declutchable rotor does, the editions, how the RM 030 compares with the RM 029 and the RM 30-01, how it wears, dated 2026 prices and what to check before buying. Bizak & Co. sources the RM 030 to order; the RM 030 collection lists the configurations we can seek.

What does the declutchable rotor do?

An automatic movement keeps winding as long as the wearer moves, and once the mainspring is full the excess is absorbed by a slipping bridle inside the barrel. That slipping puts wear on the mainspring and the barrel wall over years of use. Richard Mille's answer in the RM 030 was to disconnect the rotor from the winding train once the reserve reaches about 50 hours, so that the rotor spins freely and nothing slips, and to reconnect it when the reserve drops to about 40 hours. A small indicator on the dial reads ON when the rotor is winding and OFF when it is disengaged, which also tells the owner at a glance whether the watch is fully wound. The rotor itself has the brand's variable geometry: two rim sections can be repositioned by a service centre to make the rotor wind faster for a sedentary owner or slower for an active one. The oversized date at 12, driven by two overlapping discs, and the function selector at 4 complete the display. None of this changes how the watch is used day to day; it is a mechanism designed to reduce wear over a decade of ownership, and the visible indicator is the part owners notice.

Which RM 030 editions exist?

Version Case and details Bizak catalogue ask, 21 Sep 2026
RM 030 titanium Grade 5 titanium throughout; the standard and most common version US$148,799 pre-owned, sourced to order

RM 030 white gold White gold bezel and caseback with a titanium caseband US$167,399 pre-owned; US$179,999 brand new, sourced to order
RM 030 gold, diamond bezel Red or white gold with a diamond-set bezel US$199,999, sourced to order

RM 030 Carbon TPT Carbon TPT case, including the "Ultimate" limited edition in NTPT carbon US$232,499 to US$319,999, sourced to order

Every edition carries the same calibre and case dimensions. The titanium is the value choice and the easiest to source; the ceramic and Carbon TPT versions are lighter on the wrist and carry the premiums; the gem-set gold versions sit in between and appeal to a different buyer. Richard Mille also made regional and boutique colourways of the RM 030, including editions for the Americas and Asia, which we have not listed. Treat the table as a snapshot of one catalogue on one day.

RM 030 vs RM 029 vs RM 30-01: which Richard Mille automatic?

Materials Titanium, gold, ceramic, Quartz TPT, gem-set Titanium, gold, ceramic, Carbon TPT, gem-set Titanium, red gold, white ceramic, Quartz TPT Le Mans Classic
Bizak catalogue, 21 Sep 2026 From US$103,229 titanium pre-owned From US$148,799 titanium pre-owned US$206,460 titanium; US$251,100 red gold; US$325,499 white ceramic

The RM 029 is the smaller and cheaper watch with the same base calibre; the RM 030 adds the declutch mechanism and the larger case; the RM 30-01 is the current model with the reworked movement at a much higher ask. For most buyers the RM 030 in titanium is the sensible middle: the mechanism the RM 029 lacks, at well under the price of the RM 30-01. The Richard Mille price guide sets all three against the rest of the range.

How does the RM 030 wear?

At about 50 mm long and 14 mm thick the RM 030 is a full-size Richard Mille, the same footprint as the RM 011 chronograph but slimmer, and in titanium it is light enough to forget. The curved case and short strap horns pull it down onto the wrist so it sits better than the numbers suggest, but it needs a wrist of about 17 cm (6.7 inches) or more to look in proportion, and it will not slide under a tight cuff. The ceramic versions add scratch resistance where the watch takes knocks and a little weight; the Carbon TPT versions are the lightest of all and the most comfortable for long wear. The oversized date is legible at a glance and the ON/OFF indicator is a small pleasure. The gold-bezel versions add weight and a dressier look that suits the openworked dial less well than the monochrome cases. Buyers who want the same movement in a smaller case should look at the RM 029.

How much is a Richard Mille RM 030? Prices in 2026

  • Retail. Richard Mille sold the RM 030 through its own boutiques without a published price list; the titanium retailed in the low-to-mid US$100,000s in its later years, with gold, ceramic and composite versions above that. Since the RM 30-01 replaced it, the RM 030 is a secondary-market watch only.
  • Secondary market. Through 2025 and 2026 the titanium RM 030 has been among the most traded Richard Mille references, asked in a band that runs from the mid US$100,000s for a watch-only example to the high US$100,000s for a full set in a scarcer material. Asks rose sharply in 2021 and 2022 and softened afterwards before steadying.
  • Bizak catalogue asks. On 21 September 2026 our sourced catalogue listed the titanium RM 030 at US$148,799 pre-owned, the red gold from US$153,449, the white gold at US$167,399 pre-owned and US$179,999 brand new, the diamond-bezel gold at US$199,999, the black ceramic at US$204,599, the blue ceramic at US$219,999, the white ceramic at US$241,799, the Carbon TPT from US$232,499 to US$319,999, and the RM 30-01 successor from US$206,460 in titanium, all sourced to order.

Those figures describe what we saw and will move. Ask for a dated quote for the exact edition, year and card; our Richard Mille price guide explains how to compare quotes.

Is the RM 030 a good investment?

It is a watch to own rather than to trade. The RM 030 was made in relatively large numbers for a Richard Mille and in many colourways, so the standard titanium is not scarce, and its asks have moved with the wider market rather than ahead of it. Discontinuation has fixed the supply, which has helped the ceramic and Carbon TPT editions hold their asks, and a full-set example in an unusual material is the one most likely to keep its value. A watch bought at a secondary premium and sold within two years can lose money once dealer margins are counted. Buy it because the declutch mechanism and the case are what you want; if resale matters, ask for a written cash-buy assessment before you commit, and check hammer results at Phillips rather than dealer asks.

Buying a used RM 030: what to check

  • Warranty card. The card serial and the case serial must match; Richard Mille does not reissue cards. An RM 030 without a card should be priced as a watch-only example.
  • Declutch indicator. Wind the watch fully with the crown; the indicator should move to OFF near full reserve and back to ON after the watch has run down for about half a day. An indicator that never moves needs a service.
  • Oversized date. Advance the date through the end of a month; both discs should jump cleanly at midnight and align in the aperture.
  • Function selector. The pusher should move the selector through winding, neutral and setting, and the indicator should agree with the position.
  • Spline screws. The screw heads should be undamaged and sit flush; marks on the heads mean the case has been opened outside the brand's network.
  • Ceramic and composite cases. Inspect ceramic bezel edges and screw seats for chips under a loupe, and check that the Carbon TPT layering matches the brand's photographs of the reference.
  • Strap and clasp. Straps are model-specific; check for cracking at the case ends and that the clasp carries the correct engraving.
  • Service history. The oldest RM 030s are now about 15 years old; ask for the last service receipt and budget for a service if there is none.
  • Price against the band. A ceramic or Carbon TPT edition offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign.

Quick answers

How much is a Richard Mille RM 030?

Bizak's sourced catalogue listed the titanium RM 030 at US$148,799 pre-owned, the white gold at US$179,999 brand new, the black ceramic at US$204,599 and the Carbon TPT from US$232,499 on 21 September 2026, all sourced to order. The model is discontinued, so every example is a secondary-market watch.

What is the declutchable rotor on the RM 030?

A mechanism that disconnects the rotor from the winding train once the mainspring reaches about 50 hours of reserve and reconnects it at about 40 hours, to reduce wear on the barrel. A dial indicator reads ON or OFF.

What movement is in the RM 030?

Calibre RMAS7, an automatic skeletonised movement with a grade 5 titanium baseplate, a variable-geometry rotor, an oversized date and about 55 hours of power reserve.

What is the difference between the RM 030 and the RM 029?

The RM 029 is smaller, at about 48 by 39.7 mm, and lacks the declutchable rotor and its indicator; the RM 030 is about 50 by 42.7 mm and adds the declutch mechanism. Both share the RMAS7 base calibre and the oversized date.

Is the RM 030 discontinued?

Yes. Richard Mille replaced it with the RM 30-01 in 2023, which carries the reworked RMAR2 calibre and a redesigned case. RM 030 examples are sourced pre-owned or as unworn stock.
