A Richard Mille diamond watch is a gem-set version of one of the brand's existing references, not a separate model line: the brand sets diamonds and coloured sapphires into gold, and occasionally into ceramic or Carbon TPT bezels, on the RM 016, RM 010, RM 029, RM 030 and RM 72-01 for men, on the RM 07-01 and RM 037 for women, and on tourbillons such as the RM 17-01 and RM 47. The settings run from a medium scatter of brilliants on the bezel to full snow setting across the case and baguette-cut stones on the flagship pieces, and the price runs from under US$100,000 for a discontinued RM 016 with diamonds to seven figures for a fully set tourbillon. This guide covers the settings the brand uses, which references come gem-set, how to tell factory stones from aftermarket work, how Richard Mille's diamond watches compare with gem-set Rolex and Audemars Piguet, dated 2026 prices and what to check before buying. Bizak & Co. sources gem-set Richard Mille to order; the Richard Mille collection lists the configurations we can seek.

Which settings does Richard Mille use?
| Setting | What it looks like | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Medium or semi-set | Brilliant-cut diamonds along the bezel and sometimes the caseband, with metal visible between rows | RM 07-01 "MED", RM 72-01 semi-set, RM 029 and RM 030 diamond-bezel versions |
| Full brilliant set | Bezel, caseband and caseback edges covered in uniform brilliant-cut stones | RM 016 full diamonds, RM 010, RM 037, RM 72-01 white gold diamonds |
| Snow setting | Brilliants of varying sizes packed so that almost no metal shows; the pattern is random and each case is unique | RM 07-01 Snow in white or red gold, RM 037 ladies' models, some RM 030 and RM 016 versions |
| Baguette set | Rectangular step-cut stones set edge to edge along the bezel and case, invisible or channel set | RM 72-01 "D" baguette versions, RM 17-01 and RM 47 tourbillons, the RM 07-02 sapphire |
| Coloured stones | Pink, blue, green or yellow sapphires, sometimes mixed with diamonds in gradients | RM 07-01 and RM 07-02 editions, RM 037, ladies' boutique editions |
Two points matter for a buyer. First, Richard Mille sets stones into gold, because titanium is too hard to be cut and burnished around a stone cleanly; a "diamond" RM 011 or RM 030 in titanium is either a gold-bezel version or an aftermarket job. Second, the setting is part of the reference: a gem-set watch carries its own reference suffix, and the warranty card and the brand's records identify it as set at the factory. The Richard Mille collections page lists the current gem-set references, and Richard Mille services sets out the warranty terms that apply to them.

The table is a snapshot of one catalogue on one day and every figure will move. The pattern is consistent: the gem-set version of any reference costs a multiple of its plain titanium version, and the multiple grows with the setting, from about 1.3 times for a medium-set bezel to more than double for full brilliant or baguette work. Our Richard Mille price guide tracks the plain versions for comparison.
Why do gem-set Richard Milles cost so much more?
Three costs stack. The first is the gold case itself: a gem-set watch is almost always in white, red or yellow gold, which already prices above the titanium version. The second is the stones, which the brand states are selected for colour and clarity at the top of the commercial grades; on a snow-set RM 07-01 or a baguette RM 72-01 the stone weight runs to several carats, and baguettes are cut to fit each seat rather than bought off the shelf. The third, and the largest, is the setting labour. A curved tonneau case has no flat surface, so every seat is cut into a compound curve, and a snow setting is laid out by hand stone by stone; a fully set case can take a setter weeks. The brand also produces gem-set pieces in far smaller numbers than the plain versions, so the tooling and design cost is spread over a handful of watches. Buyers who want the look at the lowest entry price should look at the discontinued RM 016 with a diamond bezel, which on 21 September 2026 was asked from US$84,071 in our catalogue, sourced to order, and which is one of the few gem-set Richard Milles under six figures.
Factory set or aftermarket: how to tell
- Reference and card. A factory gem-set watch carries a reference suffix for the setting, and the warranty card names it. A plain reference on the card with diamonds on the watch means the stones were added later.
- Case metal. Factory stones sit in gold. Diamonds set into a titanium, ceramic or Carbon TPT caseband, other than on the specific Carbon TPT bezel editions the brand has produced, are aftermarket.
- Seat quality. Under a loupe, factory seats are clean, the beads or channels are even, and the stones sit level with one another; aftermarket work often shows tool marks, uneven stone heights and stones that catch a fingernail.
- Warranty. Aftermarket setting voids the brand's warranty and the brand's service centres may refuse the watch. It also destroys the resale value: dealers price an aftermarket-set Richard Mille below the plain version, not above it.
- Brand records. Richard Mille can confirm a reference and its configuration from the serial for a service client; ask the seller for the boutique invoice as well as the card.

Rolex and Audemars Piguet set flat round or octagonal bezels, which is simpler work, and both sell gem-set pieces in larger numbers; Richard Mille's curved case and small volume are why its gem-set watches cost what they do. The Audemars Piguet price guide and the Rolex price guide cover the other two houses.
How does a gem-set Richard Mille wear?
The setting does not change the case dimensions, so an RM 07-01 Snow wears like any RM 07-01, at about 45.7 mm long and 31.4 mm wide, and a gem-set RM 72-01 wears like the titanium one. What changes is weight: a gold case with several carats of stones is noticeably heavier than titanium, which some owners like and others do not. Stones on the bezel and caseband also catch on cuffs and knitwear, so gem-set pieces suit occasions more than daily wear. Snow-set pieces show fingerprints and dust between the stones and need a soft brush now and then; baguette-set pieces are easier to keep clean. None of the brand's gem-set references are rated beyond 50 metres of water resistance, and stones are best kept out of the sea in any case.
Are gem-set Richard Milles a good investment?
They are watches to own rather than to trade. Gem-set pieces are made in small numbers, and the ladies' RM 07-01 and RM 037 in particular have held their asks well because demand is strong and supply is thin. But the gem-set premium over the plain version is also the part of the price most exposed to taste: a buyer who tires of the look sells into a smaller pool of buyers than the plain version, and dealer margins on high-value pieces are large. The pieces that have appreciated are the unusual ones, coloured sapphire editions and baguette-set tourbillons. Buy a gem-set Richard Mille because the setting is what you want; if resale matters, ask for a written cash-buy assessment before you commit, and check hammer results at Christie's or Phillips rather than dealer asks.
Buying a gem-set Richard Mille: what to check
- Warranty card and reference. The card must name the gem-set reference and match the case serial; Richard Mille does not reissue cards.
- Stone count. Count the stones on the bezel against the brand's photographs of the reference; a missing stone is common on older pieces and a replacement should be done by the brand.
- Loose stones. Run a fingernail lightly across the setting; nothing should move or catch. Tap the case gently next to your ear; a rattle means a loose stone.
- Seat condition. Under a loupe, the beads or channels should be even and unmarked; scratches around seats suggest a stone has been replaced outside the brand.
- Gold wear. Gold shows scratches and dents more than titanium; check the case edges and the clasp.
- Spline screws. The screw heads should be undamaged and sit flush; marks on the heads mean the case has been opened outside the brand's network.
- Strap. Gem-set pieces are often sold with coloured or exotic straps that are expensive to replace; check for cracking at the case ends.
- Price against the band. A snow-set or baguette piece offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign, and the most common way an aftermarket-set watch is sold.
Quick answers
How much is a Richard Mille diamond watch?
On 21 September 2026 Bizak's sourced catalogue listed gem-set Richard Milles from US$84,071 for a discontinued RM 016 with diamonds to US$371,999 for an RM 07-01 white gold snow set, US$557,999 for a baguette RM 72-01 and US$1,441,499 for a diamond RM 47 tourbillon, all sourced to order.
Which Richard Mille models come with diamonds?
The RM 016, RM 010, RM 029, RM 030 and RM 72-01 for men, the RM 07-01 and RM 037 for women, and tourbillons including the RM 17-01 and RM 47. The brand sets stones into gold cases, with a few Carbon TPT bezel editions.
What is Richard Mille snow setting?
A setting in which brilliant-cut diamonds of different sizes are packed together so that almost no metal shows; the pattern is laid out by hand and each case is unique. It appears on the RM 07-01 Snow and on some RM 037 versions.
Can you add diamonds to a Richard Mille?
Aftermarket setters will, but it voids the warranty, the brand's service centres may refuse the watch, and dealers price an aftermarket-set Richard Mille below the plain version. Buy a factory gem-set reference instead.
How do you tell factory diamonds on a Richard Mille?
The warranty card names the gem-set reference, the stones sit in gold rather than titanium, and the seats are clean and even under a loupe. Ask for the boutique invoice and have the watch inspected before you pay.
