What makes the RM 055 different

Richard Mille calls the RM 055 the successor to the RM 038 tourbillon it made for Watson in 2011, and describes golf as long, calm preparation broken by the sudden shock of the shot. The RM 055 has no tourbillon: its skeletonised RMUL2 is built in grade 5 titanium, treated with PVD and Titalyt for rigidity and flatness, and rated to over 500 g. A variable-inertia balance replaces the usual regulator index, and two barrels share the stored energy to keep the torque steadier.

The case is built for the same job. Richard Mille counts ATZ among the hardest materials in the world after diamond, and its colour does not change; the rubber injected around the titanium caseband and back isolates the movement from vibration and makes the watch comfortable to wear.

Which RM 055 should you buy?

  • Lowest price: the original white RM055W, $251,099 pre-owned.
  • Black: the 30-piece White Drive, $269,999, or a listing titled Asia edition from $255,749.
  • Grey: the 50-piece Boutique Edition, from $269,699.
  • Carbon: the Legend editions, 90 of each; listings pictured as Legends from $334,799.
  • A tourbillon made for Watson: the 50-piece RM 38-02, $1,859,999.

What to check before you buy an RM 055

  • The edition. Check the bezel, caseband, flange and strap colours against the edition you are paying for, and on a limited edition the number engraved on the caseback (the Asia edition Phillips sold was 15/50). Catalogue images can be reference images, so judge the watch from its watch-specific photos.
  • Running and winding. The RMUL2 is wound by hand; ask for a short video of the watch running and of the crown winding it and setting the time.
  • The rubber. On most editions the titanium caseband is covered in injected rubber; ask for close photos of it and of the strap.
  • Diamonds. If a listing shows a diamond-set bezel, ask whether the setting is factory or aftermarket; our Richard Mille diamond watches guide explains the difference.
  • Service history. Ask when the watch was last serviced; our guide to Richard Mille service cost and intervals explains what is due when.
  • Box and papers. Confirm which box, papers and straps come with the watch; see what a complete Richard Mille set includes.

Our guide to spotting a fake Richard Mille covers the spline screws, movement and paperwork. Found your RM 055? Open its listing and tap Reserve with $200. Frequently Asked Questions

What Richard Mille does Bubba Watson wear?

Richard Mille has made four models for Bubba Watson since he became a brand partner in 2011: the RM 038 tourbillon (2011), which he wore to win the 2012 Masters, the RM 055 (2012), the RM 38-01 tourbillon with a G-sensor (2014) and the RM 38-02 tourbillon in pink and white Quartz TPT (2022). The RM 055 is the one made in the largest numbers and the one this page lists.

What makes the RM 055 different from other Richard Mille models?

It was designed around the shock of a golf swing. Its skeletonised, manual-winding calibre RMUL2 has a grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges, a variable-inertia balance and two barrels, and Richard Mille rates it to withstand over 500 g. The case pairs a white ATZ ceramic bezel with a titanium caseband and back under injected rubber, which isolates the movement from vibration. Unlike the RM 038, RM 38-01 and RM 38-02 made for Watson, it has no tourbillon.

How much is a Bubba Watson Richard Mille?

On Bizak on 24 October 2026 an RM 055 costs from $251,099 for the original white version, $269,999 for the White Drive and $269,699 to $289,999 for the Boutique Edition; listings pictured as Legend editions run from $334,799 to $339,999. The RM 38-02 tourbillon is $1,859,999. At launch in 2013 the White Drive and Red Drive retailed for US$115,000.

Is the RM 055 discontinued?

Yes. Richard Mille lists the RM 055, along with the RM 038, RM 38-01 and RM 38-02, among its historical models rather than its current collections, so today it is bought on the secondary market.

Are the Japan and Asia editions rarer than the standard RM 055?

Yes. Phillips records the Japan Edition as 40 pieces made for Japan and the Asia edition as 50 pieces made for the Asian market, while Richard Mille publishes no production total for the original white RM 055. The other limited editions are the White Drive and Red Drive (30 of each), the Boutique Edition (50) and the White Legend and Dark Legend (90 of each).

Do the Japan and Asia editions cost more than a standard RM 055?

On Bizak on 24 October 2026 the two Asia-edition listings cost $255,749 and $274,999, against $251,099 for the original white RM 055. The two listings with Japan in their names cost $314,999 and $334,799, but they are titled and pictured in carbon, while the Japan Edition Phillips documents is white ceramic and titanium with a blue strap, so confirm which edition you are getting before you compare prices.

What is the RM 055 White Drive (Black White Drive)?

A limited edition from October 2013: 30 pieces for North and South America, released with a 30-piece Red Drive. It has a black ceramic bezel, a black rubber-coated titanium caseband and back, a black strap and a white flange around the movement, where the Red Drive’s is red. It retailed for US$115,000. Bizak lists two White Drives at $269,999 each, titled Black White Drive.

Titanium, carbon or ceramic: which RM 055 should I start with?

Every RM 055 has a titanium caseband; what changes is the bezel and the colours. The original and the Japan Edition have white ceramic bezels, the White Drive and the Asia edition black ceramic, the Boutique Edition titanium carbide and the Legend editions NTPT carbon. For the lowest price start with the original white, from $251,099; for a rarer watch, the 30-piece White Drive at $269,999.

What size is the RM 055 and how long does it run?

The tonneau case measures 49.90 mm long, 42.70 mm wide and 13.05 mm thick. The RMUL2 is wound by hand and runs for about 55 hours on its two barrels; it shows hours, minutes and seconds, with no date.

What should I check when buying an RM 055?

Match the watch to its edition: the bezel, caseband, flange and strap colours, and on a limited edition the number engraved on the caseback. Read the reference and serial against the papers, ask for a video of the watch running and being wound, and look closely at the rubber on the caseband and the strap. The specific sourced watch is inspected before dispatch under our buyer-protection terms.

Is Bizak a Richard Mille authorized dealer?

No. Bizak & Co. is an independent Miami Beach dealer, not a Richard Mille boutique or retailer. Each RM 055 is sourced to order; its box, papers and accessories are confirmed for the specific watch before you pay the balance.
