Royal Oak ultra-thin, extra-thin and Jumbo: which is which?
"Jumbo" is the collectors' name for the 39 mm Royal Oak, a size that was large in 1972 when the original ref. 5402 appeared. Audemars Piguet calls today's version the Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin, and both of its references, the 16202 and the 15202, are on this page. The model Audemars Piguet calls "Ultra-Thin" is a different watch: the Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin 26586, 41 mm across and 6.3 mm thick (AP's current spec sheets say 6.2 mm) around a 2.89 mm calibre 5133. It was first shown as the RD#2 prototype at SIHH 2018 and first produced in 2019 as the titanium and platinum 26586IP, which Audemars Piguet presented as the world's thinnest automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch. It is about 3 mm thinner than the regular Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar 26574 (9.5 mm), runs 40 hours and is water resistant to 20 m, against 50 m for the Jumbo. We list it too:

Choose the 15202 for the lowest entry price and the calibre 2121 that collectors associate with the original 1972 watch; choose the 16202 for the newer calibre 7121, which adds a quick-set date and 12 more hours of power reserve in a case of the same size. Our Royal Oak Jumbo 15202 vs 16202 guide and 15202ST review go deeper.
Openworked and flying tourbillon Jumbos
The 39 mm by 8.1 mm Jumbo case also houses two more movements. The "Jumbo" Extra-Thin Openworked 16204 uses calibre 7124, a 2.7 mm openworked movement that shows hours and minutes only (no date) and runs 52 hours; an earlier openworked version, the Extra-Thin Openworked 15204 shown in 2014, used calibre 5122 with 40 hours. The Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin RD#3, ref. 26670, was the first Jumbo with a selfwinding flying tourbillon: calibre 2968, 3.4 mm thick, 50 hours. AP also makes the RD#3 in a 37 mm case, ref. 26660, its first selfwinding flying tourbillon at that size.

What to check before you buy a Jumbo
-
The full reference. Match the reference on the papers to the metal, dial and bracelet in the photos. On the 16202ST, the .01 carries the pink gold "50 years" rotor.
-
Box and papers. Some Jumbos come as a full set, others without, and the set is part of the price. Ask which one you are being quoted.
-
Service history on a 15202. Production ended in 2022, so ask when the watch was last serviced and by whom.
-
Case and bracelet edges. The Jumbo's thin case and tapered bracelet show polishing quickly; sharp bezel chamfers and crisp brushing suggest light or no polishing.
-
Photos of the actual watch. We send real photos of the specific watch we locate, with today's price, before you pay the balance.
Reserve a Jumbo with Bizak & Co.
-
$200 deposit, credited in full to the price of the watch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin different from other Royal Oak models?
It is the Royal Oak closest to the 1972 original: 39 mm across, 8.1 mm thick, hours, minutes and date only, most often with a Petite Tapisserie dial. The 41 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding (15500, 15510ST) is about 2 mm thicker, and the chronographs and perpetual calendars add complications.
Which reference numbers should I look for when buying a Royal Oak Jumbo?
The 16202, current since January 2022 with calibre 7121, and the discontinued 15202 (2000 to 2022) with calibre 2121; the openworked versions are the 16204 and the earlier 15204. The letters after the number give the metal: ST steel, OR pink (rose) gold, BA yellow gold, BC white gold, PT platinum, IP titanium with platinum, XT titanium with BMG. Compare the complete reference, because the suffix also fixes the dial.
Is the AP Royal Oak Jumbo the same as the Royal Oak Ultra-Thin?
No. Extra-Thin is Audemars Piguet's name for the Jumbo (16202 and 15202), 39 mm and 8.1 mm thick. Ultra-Thin names the Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin 26586: 41 mm and 6.3 mm thick (6.2 mm on AP's current spec sheets) with the 2.89 mm calibre 5133, about 3 mm thinner than the regular 26574 perpetual calendar. On Bizak it starts at $193,903.
Why is it called the Royal Oak Jumbo?
Because its 39 mm case was large for a watch in 1972, when the original Royal Oak ref. 5402 appeared, collectors nicknamed it the Jumbo. Audemars Piguet now uses the name itself, in quotation marks: Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin. The current 16202 keeps the 39 mm diameter.
What is the difference between the AP 15202 and 16202?
The case is the same 39 mm by 8.1 mm. The 16202 replaced the 15202 in January 2022 with calibre 7121, which adds a quick-set date and raises the power reserve from 40 to 52 hours. On Bizak today a steel 15202 starts at $46,499 and a steel 16202 at $92,511.
How much is an AP Royal Oak Jumbo?
On Bizak today the Jumbo starts at $46,499 for a pre-owned steel 15202 and $92,511 for a steel 16202. Gold starts at $85,999 (15202) and $134,415 (16202), platinum at $218,360, the openworked 16204 at $195,700, and gem-set versions run to $371,999. These are live asking prices; we confirm today's price with real photos of the specific watch.
Is there an openworked or tourbillon Royal Oak Jumbo?
Yes. The "Jumbo" Extra-Thin Openworked 16204 (calibre 7124: hours and minutes, no date, 52 hours) and the Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin RD#3, ref. 26670 (calibre 2968, 50 hours), use the same 39 mm by 8.1 mm case, and so does the RD#5 flying tourbillon chronograph. On Bizak the 16204 starts at $195,700, the earlier openworked 15204 at $139,499 and the 26670 at $240,196.
Are the Royal Oak Jumbo watches at Bizak and Co. authentic and what condition can I expect?
Every watch is inspected before dispatch under our buyer-protection terms. Each listing states the reference, metal, dial, condition (brand new or pre-owned) and whether box and papers are included, and you see real photos of the specific watch and today's price before you pay the balance. Our five-year warranty covers mechanical function.
