Rolex Submariner Hulk 116610LV: specs, prices and what to check

The Rolex Submariner Date 116610LV, known as the Hulk, is the green-dial, green-bezel Submariner that Rolex made from 2010 to 2020: a 40 mm Oystersteel "Super Case" with a green Cerachrom ceramic bezel, a green sunburst dial, the calibre 3135 and a Glidelock clasp. It is the only Submariner Rolex has produced with both a green dial and a green bezel, which is why the nickname belongs to this reference alone; the black-dial 126610LV that replaced it is the Starbucks and the aluminium-bezel 16610LV before it is the Kermit. What changed from the Kermit 16610LV to the Hulk?

The 16610LV of 2003 marked the Submariner's 50th anniversary with a green anodised aluminium bezel on a black maxi dial, in the slim-lugged case that had served since the 1980s. The 116610LV of 2010 kept the 40 mm diameter but changed almost everything else.

• Case. The "Super Case" with lugs and crown guards roughly twice as wide as the 16610's, so the watch reads bigger and heavier than its 40 mm suggests.
• Bezel. Green Cerachrom ceramic replaced aluminium. It does not fade or scratch in normal wear, but it can chip on a hard knock and the chip cannot be polished out.
• Dial. Green sunburst instead of black, which shifts from near-black to bright green with the light. Some early dials read a shade more olive than later ones, a difference collectors discuss but Rolex never catalogued.
• Bracelet. Solid end links, solid centre links and the Glidelock clasp replaced the hollow-link bracelet and folding clasp.
• Lume. Chromalight, which glows blue, replaced green Super-LumiNova.
• Movement. The calibre 3135 carried over, with a Parachrom hairspring throughout and the tighter Superlative Chronometer standard from 2015.

Hulk vs Starbucks vs Kermit: which green Submariner is which?

If the dial is black, it is not a Hulk. The Starbucks is the current watch and the only one of the three available at retail; the Kermit is the vintage-leaning choice with a bezel that fades; the Hulk is the one people mean when they say "green Sub" without qualification. 116610LV vs 116610LN: why pay more for green?

The 116610LN is the same watch with a black dial and black Cerachrom bezel, made from 2010 to 2020 on the same case, movement and bracelet. Everything that makes the Hulk wear well applies to the LN. The difference is colour and scarcity: Rolex made far more black Submariners, and the LN was replaced by a near-identical 126610LN, so it never became a collectible in its own right. On 21 September 2026 our catalogue listed a 116610LN at US$12,980 brand new and a pre-owned example at US$11,159, against US$20,600 and up for the Hulk. Buy the LN if you want a 40 mm ceramic Submariner Date at the lowest sensible price; buy the LV only if the green is the point.

How does the Hulk wear?

The Super Case is the divisive part. At 40 mm the diameter is modest, but the broad lugs and crown guards give the Hulk more visual mass than the 41 mm 126610LV that replaced it, and the maxi dial fills the case edge to edge. On wrists of about 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) and above it sits well; below that, the slimmer-lugged 126610 or an older 16610 wears lighter. The Glidelock clasp is the best feature for daily wear: 2 mm steps without tools, so the bracelet can be let out on a warm afternoon. The green dial is the reason to own it. Under an overcast sky it reads almost black; in sunlight it turns a bright bottle green that no other Rolex dial matches.

How much is a Rolex Hulk 116610LV? Dealer prices in 2026

• Retail. There is none. Rolex discontinued the 116610LV in 2020, so there is no authorised dealer list price to compare against; every Hulk changes hands on the secondary market, and secondary asks have sat well above the last US list price for years.
• Dealer market. In the second quarter of 2026, dealer-to-dealer chats logged 299 priced sell offers for the 116610LV at a median ask of US$18,850, with the middle half between US$18,300 and US$19,500, alongside 35 want-to-buy posts. Is the Hulk a good investment?

It has already had its run. The Hulk roughly doubled in secondary value after the 2020 discontinuation announcement and then gave some of that back, and the 2026 dealer figures above describe a market that has settled rather than one still climbing. What supports it now is fixed supply and a nickname that people outside watch collecting recognise. A full-set, unpolished, late-serial example is the one to hold; a watch-only early example with a service bezel is priced lower for a reason. Buying a used Hulk 116610LV: what to check

• Dial colour. A green dial. A black dial with a green bezel on a 41 mm case is a Starbucks; on a 40 mm case with an aluminium bezel it is a Kermit. Neither is a Hulk, whatever the listing says.
• Serial and card. The serial is engraved on the rehaut at 6 and should match the warranty card; from about 2010 serials are random alphanumeric strings. Rolex does not reissue cards.
• Bezel insert. Check the ceramic edge under a loupe for chips, especially between 12 and 3 where the bezel takes knocks. Platinum numerals should be crisp and even. A chipped insert means a replacement, which is a Rolex service job at Rolex prices.
• Case edges. The Super Case has flat, brushed lug tops and polished chamfers that should meet at a sharp line; soft, rounded edges mean polishing.
• Bracelet and clasp. Solid links should not show stretch; the Glidelock should move through its steps with a positive click and the Oysterlock should close firmly. Clasp covers scratch easily and are a common replacement.
• Movement. A 3135 should run within a few seconds a day and the date should jump cleanly at midnight. Ask for the last service receipt; a 2010 to 2015 watch with no record should be budgeted for a service.
• Price against the band. A full-set Hulk offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign.
