The Rolex GMT-Master II 116710BLNR is the first two-colour ceramic GMT-Master II: a 40 mm Oystersteel watch with a blue and black Cerachrom bezel, a black dial, the calibre 3186 and an Oyster bracelet, made from 2013 to 2019. It was the watch that earned the "Batman" nickname, which later passed to its successor, the 126710BLNR with the calibre 3285 and, at launch, a Jubilee bracelet. This guide covers the specifications, what the two-colour bezel changed, how the 116710BLNR compares with the all-black 116710LN it was built on and with the 126710BLNR that replaced it, how it wears, dealer prices in 2026 and what to check before buying one that is now between 7 and 13 years old. Bizak & Co. sources the 116710BLNR to order; the GMT-Master II collection lists the configurations we can seek.

Why the 116710BLNR mattered: the first two-colour Cerachrom bezel
When Rolex replaced aluminium bezel inserts with Cerachrom ceramic on the 116710LN in 2007, it said a two-colour ceramic insert was not possible, which is why the GMT-Master II spent six years with an all-black bezel. The 116710BLNR, shown at Baselworld in 2013, was the answer: a single piece of ceramic in which half the insert is blue and half black, with the colour boundary formed during manufacture rather than printed. Rolex made it in steel only, which was itself unusual because new bezel colours usually arrived in gold first. The blue and black combination gave the watch a nickname within weeks, and the 116710BLNR became the most requested steel GMT-Master II until the Pepsi 126710BLRO arrived in 2018. Every later two-colour steel GMT, from the Pepsi to the Sprite and the Bruce Wayne, follows the technique introduced on this reference.
116710BLNR vs 116710LN: what changed?
| 116710BLNR | 116710LN | |
|---|---|---|
| Bezel insert | Blue and black Cerachrom | All-black Cerachrom |
| Years | 2013 to 2019 | 2007 to 2019 |
| Case, movement, dial, bracelet | Same 40 mm maxi case, calibre 3186, black dial, Oyster bracelet | Same |
| Secondary demand | Higher; the colour and the nickname carry a premium | Lower; usually cheaper for the same year and condition |
Mechanically the two watches are identical, so the choice is between the two-colour bezel and the quieter all-black one. The 116710LN is the value route to the same case and movement; the 116710BLNR is the one that holds its price. The 116710LN guide covers the black-bezel watch.
116710BLNR vs 126710BLNR: old Batman or new?
| 116710BLNR | 126710BLNR | |
|---|---|---|
| Case | 40 mm, broad maxi lugs and crown guards | 40 mm, slimmer lugs and crown guards |
| Movement | Calibre 3186, about 48 h | Calibre 3285, about 70 h, Chronergy escapement |
| Bracelet | Oyster only | Jubilee at launch in 2019; Oyster added in 2021 |
| Dial | Black, "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified"; late examples may carry the small Rolex crown at 6 | Black, Rolex crown at 6 |
| Warranty | Expired or expiring; two years to 2015, five years on later examples | Five years from purchase |
| Status | Discontinued; pre-owned only | Current |
The 126710BLNR is the better watch on paper: 70 hours of power reserve, a slimmer case and a choice of bracelet. The 116710BLNR is the original, costs less, and some buyers prefer the heft of the maxi case and the look of the Oyster bracelet with polished centre links. If the nickname matters more than the generation, the 126710BLNR guide covers the current watch and why its Jubilee version was briefly called the Batgirl.
How does the GMT-Master II 116710BLNR wear?
At 40 mm with the maxi case, the 116710BLNR wears larger than its diameter suggests. The lugs are broad, the crown guards are prominent and the polished centre links on the Oyster bracelet catch the light, so the watch reads as a bigger, brighter object than the 126710BLNR on the same wrist. It suits wrists from about 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) upward. The bezel turns in both directions with firm clicks and the ceramic insert does not fade or scratch in normal use, though the platinum-coated numerals can wear if the bezel is rubbed hard against a surface. The Easylink extension gives 5 mm of adjustment without tools. The 12-hour hand jumps independently in the first crown position, so setting a second time zone takes seconds, and the green 24-hour hand reads against the bezel for a third.
How much is a Rolex GMT-Master II 116710BLNR? Dealer prices in 2026
- Retail. The 116710BLNR has been discontinued since 2019, so there is no current list price. The current 126710BLNR's price is on the Rolex GMT-Master II collection page linked above, and a pre-owned 116710BLNR has generally been asked somewhat below it.
- Secondary market. In 2025 and 2026, pre-owned 116710BLNR examples have generally been asked at a premium to what they sold for new, with full sets, unpolished cases and late production at the top and watch-only early examples at the bottom. The premium is smaller than on the 126710BLNR because the older watch lacks the current movement and warranty.
- Bizak catalogue asks. On October 4, 2026 our sourced catalogue listed three 116710BLNR examples: one at US$15,623 and two pre-owned examples at US$13,670 and US$13,019, all sourced to order. The spread reflects year, condition and what comes with the watch, not a market median.
Those figures describe what we saw on that date and will move. Ask for a dated quote for the exact year, condition and set; our Rolex price guide explains how to compare quotes.
Is the 116710BLNR a good investment?
It is a watch to own rather than to trade. Discontinued steel GMT-Master IIs with a nickname have held value well, and the 116710BLNR has the added distinction of being the first two-colour ceramic Rolex, which collectors note. But it is not scarce; Rolex made it for six years in volume, so there is no shortage of examples and the price moves with the wider steel Rolex market rather than against it. Buy it because you want the original Batman on an Oyster bracelet at less than the current watch; if resale is the priority, the 126710BLNR with a long warranty is the safer hold.
Buying a used 116710BLNR: what to check
- Reference and serial. The rehaut engraving should read ROLEX repeated with the serial at 6, and the serial should match the warranty card. Every 116710BLNR carries a random eight-character serial.
- Bezel insert. The blue and black halves should meet at a clean, straight boundary at 6 and 12, and the numerals should be bright platinum with no missing coating. A chipped edge at the bezel is permanent short of an insert replacement.
- GMT function. From the first crown position the 12-hour hand should jump in one-hour steps without the minute hand moving; the green 24-hour hand is set with the crown in the second position.
- Dial and hands. Chromalight should glow blue, not green; a 116710BLNR dial reads "GMT-Master II" with "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" and never carries a Jubilee bracelet from the factory.
- Case. Sharp lug edges and even brushing on the case sides; rounded lug tops mean polishing, which shows most on the maxi case.
- Bracelet and clasp. Check for stretch, for scratches on the polished centre links and for an Easylink that snaps open and closed. The Oysterlock should hold without play.
- Price against the band. A full-set late-production example offered well under the market is the single most reliable warning sign.
