What is the Rolex floral motif dial?
Rolex starts with a brass dial plate given a sunray finish, then uses two different laser beams to make parts of the surface matt or grained, so the flowers stand apart from one another. Colouring brings out the tonal variation, and 24 diamonds of varying diameters are set into the flowers, one at the centre of each. There are no applied hour markers or numerals: the flowers and their diamonds fill the dial.
The dial appeared at Watches and Wonders 2022 on three models: a white Rolesor (Oystersteel and white gold) 278274 in azzurro blue with a fluted bezel and Oyster bracelet, an 18 kt yellow gold 278288RBR in olive green with 46 diamonds on the bezel and a President bracelet, and an Everose Rolesor 278381RBR in silver with the same diamond bezel on a Jubilee. All use Rolex's self-winding calibre 2236, with about 55 hours of power reserve, in a 31 mm Oyster case waterproof to 100 metres.
Which colour goes with which gold
In Rolex's 2022 launch and in each of our 27 listings of this dial, the colour follows the gold: azzurro blue with white Rolesor or white gold, olive green with yellow Rolesor or yellow gold, and silver with Everose Rolesor or Everose gold. The last digit of the reference tells you which: 4 and 9 white, 3 and 8 yellow, 1 and 5 Everose. Some sellers call it a flower dial, the azzurro simply blue and the olive simply green; if a listing pairs this dial with another gold, ask whether the dial is Rolex's.

Two things stand out. The bracelet can move the price more than the bezel: our two 278383RBR asks were $10,536 apart. And our asks do not follow Rolex's order: at 2026 list a 278288RBR with an olive green diamond dial costs $15,100 more than a 278278, yet our floral 278288RBR was $12,431 below our floral 278278. For scale, Rolex lists a current 278274 on a Jubilee at $9,550 with a bright blue dial and $11,650 with a silver diamond dial, against our $12,833 for the floral one.
Floral dial with diamonds: which bezel?
Every floral dial has its 24 diamonds; the bezel decides what is added:
- Plain gold: fluted (278274, 278273, 278271, 278278, 278275) or smooth domed (278243, 278241).
- Domed, with 24 brilliant-cut diamonds (0.28 carat): 278344RBR, 278343RBR, 278341RBR.
- 46 brilliant-cut diamonds (1.02 carats): 278384RBR, 278383RBR, 278381RBR and the solid gold 278289RBR, 278288RBR, 278285RBR.
RBR in the reference marks a factory diamond bezel, so a 278274 or 278273 with stones on its bezel was modified after it left Rolex. Our factory vs aftermarket diamond bezel guide explains the checks.
Is the Rolex floral dial still made?
No. Rolex's laser-engraving page says the dial is no longer in its current catalogue, and none of the 353 Datejust 31, 214 Datejust 36 or 291 Lady-Datejust models in the 2026 US catalogue has a floral or azzurro blue dial. Every floral Datejust 31 on the market is from earlier production, so prices are market prices rather than Rolex list. Rolex's closest 2026 dials are olive green set with diamonds, from $14,750 on the 278243, or silver set with diamonds, from $11,450 on the 278274; its only 31 mm blue is bright blue without diamonds, from $7,700.
Floral dials on the Datejust 36 and other Rolex models
Rolex made the laser-engraved motif for the Datejust 31 only. Its earlier floral dials are a different design, scattered flower shapes with Arabic numerals:
- Datejust 36: the white Rolesor 116234 with a fluted bezel, in silver or pink, from $8,834 pre-owned (pink at the same price), and the yellow Rolesor 116233 in silver at $10,400 pre-owned.
- Earlier Datejust 31: the Everose Rolesor 178341 with a diamond-set domed bezel and a pink floral dial, $14,295 pre-owned.
- Pearlmaster 34: no longer in Rolex's catalogue; we list a yellow gold 81318 with a champagne floral dial at $32,132 and white gold 81319 and 81299 with dark rhodium floral dials from $34,364, all new.
Current 36 mm models have no floral dial. The fluted motif dials we list on the 126231 and 126234 are a different pattern.
Buying checks for a floral Datejust
- Count the stones: close-up photos should show all 24 dial diamonds, one in each flower.
- Match the bezel to the reference: the warranty card's reference should include RBR if the bezel has diamonds.
- Compare bracelets and neighbours: Oyster and Jubilee versions of one reference, or a diamond bezel and a fluted one, can be priced far apart.
- Ask for daylight and indoor photos: the three finishes react differently to light, so judge the colour from more than one photo.
